Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position serves as a technical lead for the IT & Classroom Technology support team, and has overall responsibility for managing the design, implementation, development and support of the information technology infrastructure at the Munk School of Global Affairs and its Centres, Institutes and Programs.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring incoming IT & Classroom Technology service support requests, prioritizingtheir importance and tasking responses to team members.
  • Serve as technical resource and support for escalated requests
  • Planning, implementing and maintaining the IT hardware, software, network and services independently
  • Training department faculty and staff to maximize best use of technology to accomplish their academic, research and administrative goals
  • Designing, building and troubleshooting complex technology systems
  • Planning and implementing information security and privacy protective measures
  • Leading and planning IT projects
  • Directing the activities of a single ongoing staff-appointed employee, casual staff and work-study students

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years managing a variety of information technology systems in a highly technical and complex IT environment,developing academic and administrative computing solutions, providing support, and resolving hardware and software problems
  • Experience leading IT projects
  • Experience analyzing and troubleshooting complex system and network problems
  • Experience with virtualization, printing, backups, security, networking, open source software, databases, email servers, automated operating system installs, fileservers/data storage, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with all aspects of operating system administration, for example, configuration of a web server, system installation and configuration, printer systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software
  • Demonstrated experience in various aspects of system and network administration in a heterogeneous computing environment (routing, DNS/DHCP, software integration and tuning, remote management)
  • Experience writing, modifying, and correcting scripts on Linux/Unix platform(s)
  • Experience providing project leadership and collaborating on IT purchase recommendations and independently costing IT projects
  • Knowledge and experience with web technologies, including website coding, web servers and TCP/IP network routing
  • Experience planning, organizing and implementing Information Security technologies and concepts including defense solutions, standards and guidelines.
  • Excellent understanding of defense in depth strategies and implementation across the entire ecosystem (endpoints, servers, appliances, cloud, and network architecture, etc.) with a strong ability to assess risks and controls of computing systems and operations.
  • Proven experience stewarding day to day technology deployment and support with operational access management controls.
  • Sophisticated understanding of computer hardware components and operating systems
  • Substantial knowledge in Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS operating systems
  • Ability to perform diagnostics and component-level repair of computer systems
  • Strong working knowledge of removing and cleaning viruses and spyware
  • Strong knowledge of selecting, installing, operating and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment and software solutions for classrooms, meeting rooms and event rooms
  • Knowledge of industry-standard and UofT-specific network configuration best practices
  • Demonstrated success in working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to juggle competing demands and tight timelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to communicate technical information to end users; Superior interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service with respect to service delivery is required.
  • Willingness to learn and upgrade skills. Demonstrated ability to learn new applications independently and quickly. - Familiarity with risk management principles and guidelines as related to unit compliance.


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Relevant IT technical certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network +, are an asset.
  • Certifications in information security and management, such as CISSP, CISM, PMP, CRISC or other relevant certifications, are an asset.
  • In-depth experience using network and security analysis tools, with a focus on intrusion detection and prevention – host and network, active and passive.
  • Experience managing vendor solutions and contracts, including cloud technologies as well as related security and risk requirements.
  • Experience with identity access management systems, solutions and implementations.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 16 -- $99,548 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $127,305. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
