Software Technician

Location: Mpumalanga
Job Type: Full-Time

Main Purpose of the Role

The Software Technician is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimising software systems that are critical to mining operations. This role requires a proactive and technically skilled individual who can troubleshoot issues, ensure system reliability, and support software deployments in a demanding, site-based environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Account Manager and Technical Superintendent to roll out, maintain, and support software solutions at client sites, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient system performance.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Matric / Grade 12 (Mathematics and Science preferred)
  • National Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Certifications:

  • A+
  • N+
  • S+

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in software support
  • Experience in a mining or industrial environment will be advantageous

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and own reliable transport
  • Willingness to travel, work overtime, and operate on-site

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line support for field technician tablets and on-site systems
  • Perform BEAMS site administration and infrastructure maintenance
  • Generate weekly BEAMS reports for the Technical Superintendent and Account Manager
  • Analyse raw data and provide detailed findings and reports
  • Troubleshoot and maintain on-site networks and connectivity
  • Configure and support routers and related networking equipment
  • Deliver remote support using tools such as TeamViewer and AnyDesk
  • Assist in reviewing, maintaining, and improving system performance
  • Conduct routine system maintenance and upgrades
  • Maintain and repair lamproom test stations, pocket tag test stations, and integrations
  • Support software rollouts, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance
  • Compile and submit incident reports
  • Participate in testing and validation of systems in both simulated and real environments
  • Provide user training and ongoing client support
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations and user guides
