Description:
The Financial manager will be mainly responsible for managing and leading the finance team, including Accountants, Junior Accountant and Accounts Payable Manager. Furthermore, several departments within the organisation are dependent on the Financial manager to integrate financial information and improve implementation of projects, initiatives and controls. The Financial manager will also assist the CFO with strategic decision making within the finance team as well as within the broader business. The Financial manager will also be responsible for running and leading certain project initiatives within the finance team that impact the broader business.
The candidate needs to be suitably qualified and have excellent business acumen. Experience in managing teams is essential. The candidate also has to be able to work efficiently on his/her own and maintain the highest level of integrity at all times. Reports to:
CFO The Role:
  • Provide leadership, direction and management to the finance team
  • Monitoring the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as expenditure, payments, collections, payroll and other transactions
  • Review and approval of monthly and weekly payment batches
  • Take full responsibility for the delivery of the companys internal and external reporting requirements
  • Analyse business, retail and financial metrics and provide insights to CFO and Head of Departments for decision making
  • Assistance, preparation and presentation of monthly departmental Income Statements to Head of Departments
  • Manage the companys annual budgeting process, the budget presentation and review packs
  • Preparation and assistance with departmental budgets
  • Tracking of expenditure against budget and drive cost optimisation across the business
  • Create, monitor and enforce appropriate financial frameworks, policies and procedures to ensure finance and business best practices are adhered to across the company and cross-functional teams
  • Ensure that the companys financial systems and controls are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth plans
  • Implementing and maintaining internal control systems within the central finance department
  • Responsible for the integrity of all financial records and financial system integrations
  • Performing and review of General Ledger account reconciliations
  • Perform and review monthly inventory reconciliations and follow up on inventory discrepancies with Retail and Supply Chain departments
  • Understand and manage the return of stock processes (both returns from customers and returns to suppliers)
  • Implement, manage and maintain imported stock costings and hedging processes.
  • Liaise with the operations, inbound and DC managers on intake and stock accuracy
  • Facilitate and attendance of annual stock takes as well as cyclical counts
  • Management of monthly working capital and cashflow requirements
  • Take full ownership of annual- and interim financial audit (internal and external)
  • Ensure full statutory compliance relating to all direct and indirect company taxes,
  • Work closely with the Group finance teams in alignment of Group processes and procedures
  • Manage and grow a high-performance finance team, develop and retain top professionals through training and mentorship
  • Build and expand relationships with external stakeholders, including bankers and payment providers
  • Ad hoc tasks as required by the CFO, CEO, group finance team and other relevant stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Registered CA (SA) (non negotiable)
  • 3+ years' experience in managing a finance team
  • Detailed knowledge of Accounting, IFRS, VAT and Income Taxes
  • Experience in automation of finance processes and the scaling thereof
  • Retail/FMCG/ecommerce experience advantage
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in SQL, Looker, Qlik and Sage Pastel advantageous
