Job Description - General Bookkeeper

Join Our Team as a General Bookkeeper!

Our client, a prestigious Top 50 Accounting firm in the UK, is expanding its team in South Africa and is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join them.

As a General Bookkeeper , you'll play a crucial role in maintaining our organization's financial health by overseeing regular bookkeeping and accounting processes. From bank reconciliations to purchase ledger management and sales recording, you'll handle various financial tasks with precision and expertise.

 

Location : Hybrid Model and can be based at either our Johannesburg Office (Woodmead) or Cape Town Office (Century City).

Term: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract (Renewable Annually)

 

Key Responsibilities:

Regular Bookkeeping & Accounting Processes:

  • Perform accurate bank reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial transactions.
  • Manage the purchase ledger efficiently and reconcile supplier statements effectively.
  • Record sales transactions meticulously and oversee credit control activities diligently.
  • Maintain petty cash, process expenses meticulously, and manage prepayments and accruals accurately.
  • Handle journal entries meticulously for payroll, sales, stock, and other transactions.
  • Conduct regular reconciliation of balance sheet items with attention to detail.

VAT Returns and Compliance:

  • Review and file VAT returns meticulously in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure strict adherence to VAT regulations and guidelines to maintain compliance.

Management Reporting:

  • Prepare comprehensive profit and loss statements, management accounts, and Board packs as per client requirements.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis to meet client and prospective client needs effectively.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Conduct insightful ad-hoc reporting and analysis as required for client and prospective client work.
  • Offer valuable insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.

Client Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding financial matters, reports, and inquiries with professionalism and clarity.
  • Address ad-hoc requests regarding bookkeeping and accounting, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience of 3+ years in bookkeeping within a practice or firm .
  • Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks Online, and Sage 50 is essential.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and colleagues seamlessly.
