Job Description - CA - Assistant Financial Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Chartered Accountant (CA) for a commercial insurance businessfor a 3-month project. Must be available immediately. 

Responsibilities:

Duties include:

  • Reinsurance Accounts:Prepare quarterly invoices to reinsurers.
  • Reconcile and manage all payments to and from reinsurers on a quarterly basis.
  • Xol calculation, facultative accounting and proportional accounting done monthly.
  • Reconciliations and Payments: Extract information and process payment of broker commission statements monthly.
  • Prepare SASRIA reconciliation and payment report monthly.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for review by the Financial Manager.
  • Prepare cashbook reconciliations for review by the Financial Manager.
  • Load payments onto online banking for authorization by the Financial Manager.
  • Assist with general accounting and reconciliations as assigned.
  • Month end processes: Prepare monthly bordereaux receipting.
  • Load journals on ACCPAC system.
  • Balance the debtor control accounts and prepare the age analysis report.
  • Completion of monthly finance templates as requested.
  • Preparation of management reports and packs.
  • Completion of IFRS17 templates.
  • Financial Year End and Audit: Assist in the preparation of financial year end processes and reports.
  • Compile information required for the external audit.
  • Ensure compliance to audit requirements.
  • Assisting with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership and management within complex organisational structures
  • Develop and implement robust financial controls and processes to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including IFRS 17.
  • Prepare and analyse financial statements, management reports, and budgets, providing insights to support decision-making at all levels.
  • Liaise with external auditors, ensuring smooth audit processes and compliance with audit requirements.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Conduct payroll audits, tax calculations, and submissions to regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and optimise business performance.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including executives, IT teams, project managers, and external partners.
  • Lead the financial management of significant projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
  • Drive efficiency and effectiveness in financial processes through automation and technology adoption.

Requirements

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with over ten years of post-article experience.
  • Proven expertise in finance management, project accounting, auditing, and financial planning.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and financial software such as SAP, QuickBooks, and Sage.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in coaching and developing junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Postgraduate qualification in financial planning or related field is advantageous.
  • Experience with IFRS 17 journals would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Parktown for the project
