Job Description - Embedded Engineer


SUMMARY:
Our client in the Secure Power and Data Centre Solutions industry is currently looking for an Embedded Engineer, in Ferndale, Johannesburg. POSITION INFO:

Responsibilities:
  • Research and develop comprehensive documentation outlining the specifications of printed circuit boards (PCB), involving the entire process from schematic design to layout.
  • Execute the PCB design in accordance with the specifications outlined in the documentation.
  • Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of the PCB, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
  • Additionally, design and validate electronic and electrical control systems.
  • Proficiently utilize Embedded C and C# programming languages, with a preference for microcontrollers manufactured by Microchip.
  • Construct test jigs tailored for PCB testing purposes.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional departments to solicit feedback on product performance, facilitating iterative refinement and optimization of designs.
  • Document a user needs and requirements.
  • Design the PCB that is required.
  • Testing PC boards against IEC standards.
  • Coding of control systems and boards functionality.
  • Negotiate costs with suppliers.
  • Assist with technical issues and support the team.

Requirements:
  • B.Eng. or Btech or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft packages especially that of Excel.
  • Good communication skills and collaboration with other colleagues to implement systems.
  • A valid driver’s license is essential.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Success driven.
  • Self-motivated and able to function with minimum supervision.
  • Computer literate – (Microsoft office suite)
  • Fast learner.
  • Ability to communicate with people on all levels in a diverse environment.
  • Comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policies.
  • Embraces personal challenge.
  • Confident, rounded thinking.
  • Is self-aware.
  • Is assertive, optimistic, and open to change.
  • Engages interest and participation of others and has a collaborative approach to working with others.
  • Proactively contributes to the team.

  • Withheld the companies ISO 9001 process.
  • Skills:
  • Must be comfortable using a PCB design package, Proteus, or Circuit studio.
  • Must be able to code in C and C#.
  • Familiar with the microchip microcontrollers and the MPLAB IDE.
  • Knowledgeable of network protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, Modbus, Wireless 802.11, etc.
  • Good knowledge of all relevant IEC standards but not a must.
  • Must have good listening skills and questioning techniques to get all the required info to identify and verify the customer’s needs and find the best options to meet the needs.
  • Good communication skills and collaboration with other colleagues to implement systems.

Remuneration: 
  • R40 000 – R50 000 per month.
