Junior Group Accountant

We are seeking a Junior Group Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining financial records, performing month-end and year-end closing procedures, and assisting in budget preparation and financial analysis. You will also ensure compliance with tax regulations, prepare financial reports, and collaborate with various internal teams to ensure accurate financial transaction recording. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of relevant experience, a strong understanding of financial principles, and proficiency in accounting software, particularly Xero and MS Office Suite. • Financial Records Management:
  
  • Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledgers and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of reports and records.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Budgeting and Analysis:
  
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
• Tax Compliance:
  
  • Prepare and submit tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
• Reporting:
  
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for management and external stakeholders.
• Collaboration:
  
  • Work closely with internal teams, such as underwriters, claims, and operations, to ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to management, aiding in informed decision-making processes.
• Continuous Learning:
  
  • Stay updated on accounting principles, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and best practices.
• Ad-Hoc Duties:
  
  • Perform any other tasks as required by your direct manager.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree is advantageous – preferably in Accounting or related fields.
• Experience:
  • 1+ years of relevant experience within the financial sector.
  • Completed SAIPA/SAICA Articles advantageous.
• Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles and practices.
  • Experience with VAT is advantageous.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Xero and MS Office Suite is preferred).
