Job Overview



We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our Field Human Resources (FHR) team in Johannesburg. This 12-month developmental internship offers hands-on experience in humanitarian HR operations, supporting the delivery of effective Field HR services to our international mobile workforce. You will work closely with the FHR Officer, Career Manager, and Development Advisor, gaining exposure to HR administration, staff mobility, HR information systems, and international staff management in a dynamic humanitarian context.



This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about humanitarian work to build practical HR skills while contributing meaningfully to MSF's mission.



Key Responsibilities




  • HRIS & Data Support: Capture, update, and maintain accurate staff data in systems such as Wedoo and HERO; perform routine data checks, prepare basic reports, and ensure proper documentation and filing.

  • FHR Planning, Reporting & Administration: Assist with trackers, schedules, monthly/quarterly reporting, expense tracking, and filing; act as HRIS super-user when required and support transversal projects.

  • Staff Mobility & Deployment: Administer mobility processes including document collection/verification, visa/flight/accommodation coordination, tracker maintenance, stakeholder communication, and preparation of briefing packs.

  • IMS Administrative Support: Help organise briefings/debriefings, manage communications on arrivals/departures, maintain contact lists, follow up on documentation/health requirements, and liaise with other MSF units.

  • Events & Coordination: Provide logistical support for HR-led events (e.g., information days, IMS events), including scheduling, venue arrangements, attendance tracking, and record-keeping.

  • General Support: Handle ad hoc administrative tasks and actively engage in learning opportunities related to Field HR and MSF practices.



Required Profile




  • Education: Completed or currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience: No prior professional HR experience required; any volunteer, administrative, or related experience is an advantage.

  • Skills & Competencies:





    • Strong administrative and organisational abilities

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information

    • Proficiency in MS Office and comfort with data entry systems

    • Ability to thrive in a structured, deadline-driven environment

    • Initiative, willingness to learn, and strong interpersonal/teamwork skills





Key Learning Outcomes



Gain practical exposure to Field HR in an international NGO, understand staff mobility and IMS administration, develop professional communication/coordination skills, and gain insight into MSF's structures, values, and humanitarian HR practices.
