Purpose:


NOA Trading are seeking Graduate Data Energy Analysts to join a 12-month grad programme and contribute towards a growing team at the forefront of South Africa’s renewable energy transition. We are looking for individuals who are motivated, capable and genuinely interested in contributing to a purpose-driven business making a difference in the energy landscape and solving some of our most complex problems


This is a rare opportunity to build a career in the renewable energy sector. Graduate Energy Analysts will work across several teams within the NOA organisation - some roles are customer-facing and commercially driven while others are more technical or operational in nature. Our Graduate Energy Analysts have varied backgrounds and contribute across different functions – from engaging with customers and delivering bespoke energy supply solutions, to supporting trading operations and performing detailed data analysis for our portfolio management team.


Ideal Graduate Energy Analyst candidates will be highly analytical and strong numerically, with the ability to translate complex data into meaningful and actionable insights. Whichever team you work with, you will have the opportunity to put your analytical skills to work in a high growth, fast paced environment, solving the problem of delivering affordable and reliable clean energy at scale so that SA businesses can remain competitive on the national and global scale, while achieving their decarbonisation objectives.



Key Accountabilities:



  • Work with large energy datasets – from customers and generators – using standard technical approaches like load factors, TOU.

  • Apply Eskom tariff frameworks, including both Energy and Capacity charges, to calculate customer costs and potential savings.

  • Determine the optimum energy solutions for customers; optimising for financial metrics like operating profit and NPV and non-financial metrics like renewable energy penetration.

  • Provide analytical support to teammates across multiple workstreams including energy forecasting, customer reporting, and risk assessment – you will ensure that your team has the fact base and analytics to make decisions and engage with customers. Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and provide analytical support

  • Help to improve the standard tools and models in use by the business; specifically excel optimisation models and python/ SQL frameworks (in technical analysts roles) . Ensure data accuracy and consistency, supporting compliance with internal standards and customer obligations

  • Participate in product and process innovation to help scale NOA’s energy platform



Minimum Qualifications required:



  • Minimum of undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or another quantitative field.


Analytical & Problem Solving Skills:



  • Advanced Excel skills (modelling, formulas, analysis)

  • Strong problem-solving ability with a structured, analytical approach.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy


Communication and Customer Management Skills:



  • Ability to communicate effectively with customer technical teams and internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to translate complex technical data issues into understandable terms.

  • Skilled in preparing customer-ready reports and data insights.


Person Specific Skills: 



  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks and issues.

  • Customer-focused mindset — proactive engagement to resolve data issues and support customer processes.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams (e.g., Settlements, Trading, Operations).

  • Strong time management skills — able to meet deadlines and manage multiple deliverables.

  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new platforms, systems, and processes as business needs evolve.
