We are seeking a kind,
patient, and reliable au pair to join a warm family with two siblings. The
primary focus will be supporting an easy -going, curious 6‑year‑old autistic
boy, with occasional care for his 1‑year‑old sibling.
The child is friendly and
content, with a love for sensory experiences such as swimming, trampoline play,
exploring nature, and a special fascination with washing machines and spinning
objects. He thrives when included in social settings and benefits from
encouragement, acceptance, and playful engagement.
The ideal candidate will be
trustworthy, easy‑going, and flexible in approach, with a genuine interest in
understanding and celebrating neurodivergent ways of experiencing the world.
This role is about building connection, offering companionship, and creating a
safe, supportive environment where the child can flourish.
Purpose of the Role:
To provide steady,
compassionate support at home, focusing on daily routines such as meals, potty
training, and relaxed developmental activities. The au pair will help create a
calm, predictable rhythm to the day while encouraging playful engagement that
supports growth. Practical support such as school pick‑ups and transport to
appointments is also part of the role, ensuring transitions are handled with
patience and consistency.
Job Objectives:
· Provide
attentive care for a 6‑year‑old autistic boy, and occasionally his 1‑year‑old
sibling.
· Foster
emotional safety through predictable routines and creative, active engagement.
· Support
daily transitions calmly and consistently.
· Prepare
light, nutritious meals and assist during mealtimes to encourage healthy eating
habits and independence.
· Guide
and reinforce consistent potty‑training routines with patience and positivity,
supporting confidence and self‑care skills.
· Design
and implement developmental activities—including communication exercises,
sensory play, and fine/gross motor skill practice—in a nurturing environment.
· Manage
school pick‑ups and transport to extra‑murals and appointments.

and respectful of neurodivergent experiences.

to learning low‑demand, neuro‑affirming approaches.

Experience
· Previous
au pair or childcare experience – Essential
· Experience
supporting neurodivergent children (ASD, ADHD, PDA) – Desirable
Knowledge
· Familiarity
with Autism Spectrum Disorder – Essential
· Understanding
of low‑arousal, neuro‑affirming approaches – Desirable
· Awareness
of developmental activities that nurture growth - Desirable
Skills
· Ability
to plan and implement engaging, child‑centred activities - Essential
· Skills
to reduce stress and anxiety through a low‑arousal approach – Essential
· Strong
verbal communication with both child and parents – Essential
· Excellent
organisational and time‑management skills – Essential
· Strong
relationship‑building abilities – Essential
· Holds
a valid driver’s licence and has a reliable car - Essential
· Support
and training from the Facilitation Academy over 4–6 weeks, including online
modules, individual sessions, and access to resources.
Working Hours &
Compensation
· Weekday
afternoons: 12:00 – 15:00/16:00
· Opportunity
to work during school holidays
· Salary:
R150/hour (approx. R9,900/month for 3 hours/day) or R120/hour (approx.
R10,560/month for 4 hours/day)
· Petrol
for transporting the child reimbursed at AA rates per kilometre (excluding
travel from au pair’s home to place of work)
