JOB DESCRIPTION

A full time permanent contract (Science Law) is being offered. We are seeking a candidate with researchexperience in microbiology, specifically in molecular biology and high-throughputsequencing of viruses and bacteria. The successful candidate will join the PathogenDiagnostics and Genomic Epidemiology Group at IGTP, located in the Sequencing Areaof the Microbiology Department at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, under the supervisionof Dr. Elisa Martró.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Processing of clinical samples for nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription, PCR, sequencing library preparation, quality control, etc.
Collaboration with bioinformaticians in secondary analyses of sequencing data according to research objectives.
Maintenance of databases.
Statistical analysis of data and creation of complex visualizations.
Communication with collaborating research groups.
Writing of abstracts and research articles for dissemination of results at conferences, workshops, and in scientific journals

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE

Required level of education: Bachelor's and Master's degree in Life Sciences
Languages: Medium-high level of English for participation in international projects.
Specific knowledge: Prior training in clinical microbiology, either during academic studies (Bachelor’s or Master’s) or through work experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
Personal skills: Strong ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, both with collaborators within the Can Ruti Campus and external partners.
Required experience: Specific training in molecular biology techniques and high-throughput sequencing (Illumina and Nanopore), and experience in research projects.
Studies or knowledge not required, but valuable for a better performance of the functions to be developed:
Knowledge of biostatistics
Experience with programming languages (R, Python, etc.)

WHAT WE OFFER

Full time permanent contract (Science Law), 38-hour work week.
Date of incorporation: 11/08/2025
Annual gross salary based on the candidate’s qualifications, distributed over 12 payments.
Gross annual remuneration will be fixed based on the experience provided and the skills of the candidate, distributed in 12 payments.

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre located in Badalona. Its main objective is to increase scientific knowledge in order to transform it into solutions to improve the health and medical care of patients and the community.

The Institute is associated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, and is part of the Can Ruti biomedical campus.
