We are looking for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Architect with strong technical expertise and strategic mindset, to join a high-performing team focused on designing and deploying secure, scalable, and high-availability virtual desktop infrastructures on Microsoft Azure.
The selected candidate will take a key role in the definition, implementation, and optimization of Azure Virtual Desktop solutions, collaborating closely with stakeholders, technical teams, and business units to ensure successful project delivery from architecture to execution.
CONTEXT & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement end-to-end Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) infrastructures tailored to client requirements, from initial assessment to production rollout.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs and user scenarios into scalable and secure virtual desktop solutions.
- Ensure proper integration with Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory, FSLogix profiles, and security policies.
- Conduct performance tuning, capacity planning, and cost optimization for AVD environments.
- Lead technical documentation efforts and enforce best practices in architecture, automation, and security.
- Evaluate and implement third-party tools to support monitoring, user experience, and IT operations in AVD environments.
- Provide technical guidance during stakeholder sessions, internal reviews, and customer presentations.
- Ensure stability, security, and maintainability of the virtual desktop infrastructure over the project lifecycle.
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
The ideal candidate must demonstrate advanced expertise in designing and deploying Azure Virtual Desktop environments, including:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure architecture, with at least 2 years working with Azure Virtual Desktop (or Windows Virtual Desktop).
- Proven experience in deploying AVD at enterprise scale, including multi-session host pools, user profiles (FSLogix), and application virtualization.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure services: Azure AD, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Virtual Networks, Storage, Monitoring, and Security Center.
- Strong experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform).
- Solid understanding of identity and access management, conditional access, and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Familiarity with Windows Server, Microsoft 365 environments, and hybrid architectures (on-premises integration).
- Experience with cost management and licensing models within Azure.
- Fluent technical English is required, both written and spoken.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ-140, AZ-104, or AZ-305).
- Experience working in regulated or enterprise-grade environments.
- Hands-on experience with zero trust security models or compliance frameworks.
- Previous consulting or client-facing roles in international environments.
CONTRACT & LOCATION
The start date is immediate. The contract will be on a freelance basis, with an initial duration of 3 months, and potential extensions depending on project evolution and performance. The position is full-time (40 hours per week).
Work will be conducted remotely, following European working hours, although occasional after-hours meetings may be required.
There may be a requirement to be on-site in Barcelona during the first days of the project for alignment sessions with internal sponsors and stakeholders.
