Cities across Europe are rethinking how mobility systems are planned, powered and operated to become cleaner, more resilient and more accessible. This presents new opportunities to better integrate vehicles, energy infrastructure, logistics and urban spaces enabling cities to deploy zero emission mobility systems that are economically viable and well suited to local needs.
As Electrification and Alternative Fuels Lead, you will shape one of EIT Urban Mobility’s five Priority Domains, helping the organisation identify where innovation, investment, education and capacity building and strategic partnerships can deliver impact on the transition towards zero emission mobility. Drawing on knowledge and insights form EIT Urban Mobility’s extensive ecosystem of cities, industry, start-ups, investors, universities and research organisations, you will develop the strategic direction of the domain and identify opportunities that strengthen the organisation’s programmes, partnerships and long term impact.
Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Innovation, you will provide strategic leadership for the Electrification and Alternative Fuels domain, identifying opportunities to connect expertise, programmes and partnerships in support of a coherent organisational strategy. You will interpret market and business intelligence together with ecosystem insights to inform strategic priorities, advise senior leadership on emerging opportunities, and strengthen EIT Urban Mobility’s role in accelerating the transition towards sustainable urban mobility.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the development and continuous evolution of EIT Urban Mobility's strategic approach to Electrification and Alternative Fuels, identifying the highest impact opportunities to accelerate zero emission mobility in cities.
- Analyse technological, market, regulatory, policy and investment trends to identify emerging opportunities, innovation gaps and barriers to the deployment and adoption of electrification and use of alternative fuels across urban mobility systems.
- Develop EIT Urban Mobility’s strategic roadmap for Electrification and Alternative Fuels, identifying where the organisation can create the greatest impact through innovation, investment, education, capacity building and strategic partnerships.
- Mobilise EIT Urban Mobility's ecosystem of cities, industry, start-ups, investors, universities and research organisations to address strategic challenges and accelerate the deployment of innovative solutions.
- Identify emerging business models, investment opportunities and market developments that support the deployment of electrification and alternative fuels solutions across Europe while contributing to the long term financial sustainability of EIT Urban Mobility.
- Work across EIT Urban Mobility’s Priority Domains to integrate electrification and alternative fuels into decision making, providing leadership on charging infrastructure, energy systems integration, battery technologies, alternative fuels, circularity, innovative business models and key value chains.
- Develop and nurture strategic partnerships with organisations across the mobility, energy, infrastructure and investment ecosystems to strengthen EIT Urban Mobility's reach, impact and strategic positioning.
- Curate strategic studies, executive briefings, publications and thematic content related to Electrification & Alternative Fuels, informing EIT Urban Mobility's educational activities, senior leadership, organisational positioning and flagship initiatives.
- Represent EIT Urban Mobility in European initiatives, expert groups and strategic partnerships related to Electrification & Alternative Fuels.
What you will bring along the way:

Must-have:
- A Master's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Sustainable Mobility, Economics, Business, Public Policy or another relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in electrification, energy systems, sustainable mobility, infrastructure, innovation, investment or strategy.
- Demonstrated expertise in the transition towards zero emission mobility, with experience in one or more of the following areas: electrification, charging infrastructure, alternative fuels, energy systems integration, batteries, circularity, infrastructure deployment, or mobility energy services.
- Strong understanding of the European urban mobility and energy ecosystems, and the opportunities and challenges associated with deploying zero emission mobility solutions in cities.
- Proven ability to develop strategic partnerships and engage effectively with cities, public authorities, industry, investors, infrastructure providers, research organisations and international organisations.
- Experience translating market, business and policy intelligence into strategic recommendations and implementation plans.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English (C1 level or above), both written and spoken.
- Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
- Experience identifying business opportunities, innovative business models or investment opportunities that accelerate market uptake and long term sustainability.
- Self starter with a hands on attitude, comfortable operating in multidisciplinary environments and turning strategic opportunities into tangible outcomes.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience working with cities, public transport authorities, logistics operators, ports or infrastructure providers.
- Experience working in or with European institutions, international organisations or EU funded programmes.
- Experience working across the mobility and energy sectors or with organisations involved in the deployment of zero emission mobility solutions.
- Experience developing business strategies, innovation ecosystems or strategic partnerships within the mobility, energy or infrastructure sectors.
- Understanding of electricity markets, energy systems integration, circular economy or resilient value chains.
- Established professional network across the European mobility, energy or innovation ecosystem.
- Any additional European language is an asset.

Kindly note that this is a permanent and full-time position and it is based in Barcelona, Spain.
