About the client:

We are seeking an Indirect Purchasing Category Lead to join one of our clients in the pharmaceutical sector. The position is based in Barcelona and offers a hybrid work model.

Your Mission

Reporting to Corporate Indirect Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for building the category strategy and implementing productivity projects while maintaining a close working relationship with Local and Corporate stakeholders.

You will bring value to the business through better spending management, aligning the department strategy and objectives with the company strategy.

Your Major Accountabilities

• Strategic Management of assigned Purchasing Categories studying and ensuring the Stakeholders’ needs, negotiating and agreeing with selected suppliers the optimum conditions in terms of price, quality and service.


• Establish purchasing strategies for each assigned expenditure category – applying defined purchasing methodology, following the established purchasing policy.


• In collaboration with the Purchasing Director to set annual objectives aligned with the company strategy, mainly focused on Cost reduction, improvement of current specifications, value in, bringing innovation and efficiency. 


• In collaboration with the Purchasing director in order to accomplish the annual Purchasing budget created from the standard prices of the materials and monitoring it.


• Analyse and monitor the Risk Assessment of assigned Purchasing Categories.


• Perform Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) of key suppliers for each assigned category evaluating, measuring and monitoring their performance in order to develop strategies to improve their contribution to the business.


• Constantly study of the market, suppliers and competitors to propose alternatives, new and better solutions and prices improvement of the assigned Purchasing Categories. Find, identify and propose optimisation levers.


• Master e-procurement tools (RFI, RFQ, RFP, reverse auctions.), with the aim of achieving optimal economic conditions and services.


• To Identify/ communicate/ promote and implement Source to Pay process improvements.


• Maintain and enforce all the relevant processes and policies.


• Ensure contracts are completed for all relevant agreements and that SLAs have been agreed with the end user.


• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with operational and stakeholders, to fully understand and help shape business requirements.

We Would Like You To Have

• Degree in Economics, Engineering, Pharmacy, Chemistry or similar. Master in Category/Purchasing is a plus.


• At least 5+ years of experience as Indirect Category Lead/Manager or Indirect Purchasing Specialist in a multinational company, knowing pharmaceutical/chemical companies is a plus.


• Strong business acumen, understanding the commercial needs, excellent collaborative skills, proactivity, excellent communication ability, open for change, results & data driven, self-management, project-, and time-management skills.


• Seniority level to manage, execute and monitor local and corporate projects based on agreed milestones and excellent internal & external stakeholder management skills.


• Proficiency in English & Spanish language.


• Expert level of Excel, Power Point. Experience with SAP system is a plus.


• Availability of travel 10%
