POSITION: Lower School Learning Support Teacher with EAL Expertise


STARTING DATE: August 2026



POSITION OVERVIEW: This role provides specialized learning support services to students with diverse learning needs while also supporting English language learners across the Lower School. The teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers, families, and the Student Support Team to ensure all students have access to high-quality, differentiated instruction that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Learning Support (Primary Focus - approximately 60-70% of role):



  • Identify and monitor students with learning differences through specialized assessments and progress monitoring

  • Implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 RTI/MTSS instructional systems to increase student achievement

  • Work in partnership with classroom teachers and the Student Support Team to create and implement individualized learning plans with specific goals and evidence-based interventions

  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student performance and share results to track progress, adapt instruction, and provide targeted feedback

  • Support teachers in using student data to inform instructional practices and differentiation strategies



English as an Additional Language Expertise (Secondary Focus - approximately 30-40% of role):



  • Identify and monitor students learning English as an additional language through language proficiency assessments

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement appropriate scaffolds and language acquisition strategies

  • Provide targeted instruction for EAL students as needed, particularly those who may also have learning differences

  • Build teacher capacity in understanding language acquisition stages and implementing effective EAL instructional practices



Collaborative Responsibilities:



  • Work with the Learning Support team and Lower School Director to build, utilize, and maintain systems that ensure student support is effective across the Lower School

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create and maintain positive and effective learning environments that promote academic, social, and emotional learning for all students

  • Promote and maintain appropriate student behavior using Responsive Classroom principles

  • Partner actively with parents to ensure student success within the classroom and the ASM community



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Valid teaching certification with minimum 3 years teaching experience

  • Master's degree or certification in Special Education, Learning Support, or related field from an accredited institution

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks

  • Experience creating and implementing individualized learning plans and evidence-based interventions

  • Strong collaborative skills and experience working effectively with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Certification, Master's degree, or significant coursework/training in Teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL/ESL/TESOL)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:

    • Language acquisition stages and developmental progressions

    • Instructional scaffolds for English learners

    • Differentiation strategies for varying language proficiency levels



  • Experience supporting students who are both English learners and have learning differences

  • Experience in using technology as an instructional tool, especially Google Workspace

  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in learning support and language acquisition

  • International school experience

  • Spanish language proficiency (helpful but not required)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Working hours: 8:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
