POSITION: Middle School Humanities 8 Teacher (one-year position 26-27 to cover for the current teacher who is taking a leave of absence)



STARTING DATE: August 2026



JOB SUMMARY


We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Humanities 8 teacher to join our dynamic educational team. The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator with a strong background in teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies to Middle School students. The Humanities Teacher will play a key role in fostering a love for literature, writing, critical thinking, and cultural understanding amongst our students as they grapple with the question of “What it means to be human?” This position requires a creative and engaging approach to curriculum development, effective classroom management, a standards-based approach to instruction and assessment, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Teach Humanities 8 classes in Middle School

  • The position may also require the teaching of a Middle School semester exploratory class (Creative Writing, Debate, etc.). 

  • Serve as a grade level advisor and contribute positively to the Middle School advisory program.

  • Support the on-going development and implementation of a comprehensive and engaging Humanities curriculum for Middle School students, incorporating both English Language Arts and Social Studies content. 

  • Collaborate regularly with grade level Humanities 8 teacher and the Humanities department 

  • Use direct instruction and inquiry-based learning approaches to promote reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation, collaboration, and respect among students.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, providing both remedial support and enrichment opportunities as necessary.

  • Assess student progress regularly through a variety of formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.

  • Stay current with educational trends, best practices, and curriculum developments in the field of the Humanities, incorporating new and innovative teaching strategies into the classroom.

  • Actively participate in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and contribute to the overall school community.

  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents, providing regular updates on student progress and addressing any concerns or questions.

  • Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and committees to contribute to the overall school community and foster a sense of school pride.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:



  • Bachelor's degree in Humanities education with a special emphasis on the teaching of English language arts, History, Social Studies, or a related field.

  • Valid teaching certification for Middle School education.

  • Proven experience teaching a Humanities approach to English language arts and social studies to Middle School students.

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and a growth mindset.

  • Passion for fostering a love of learning and critical thinking skills among Middle School students.

  • Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
