Meller is a Barcelona-born brand selling sunglasses and accessories in over 100 countries. As we continue our international expansion, we're looking for a Legal Counsel to become Meller's internal point of reference for legal matters, with a particular focus on retail contracts and regulatory compliance.
Mission of the role
A key part of the role will be supporting our international retail expansion from a legal perspective: reviewing contracts for our stores and coordinating with the external local law firms we work with across Europe to ensure each agreement is properly reviewed, negotiated and adapted to local legislation.
You will not be responsible for finding locations or negotiating directly with landlords or brokers. Your role will be to understand the contracts and their commercial implications, coordinate external counsel and make sure Meller's interests are properly protected.
Beyond retail, you will act as a General Legal Counsel for the company, supporting different legal matters with our external advisors and taking particular ownership of regulatory topics affecting our products and international operations.
Your role
Retail Contracts
Review lease agreements and other legal documentation related to Meller's retail locations.
Identify relevant legal and commercial risks, obligations and contractual clauses.
Coordinate with external local law firms responsible for adapting and negotiating contracts in each market.
Act as the legal link between Meller's Retail team and external counsel.
Maintain an organised internal system for retail contracts and documentation.
Track key contractual dates together with the Retail team, including renewals, notice periods, break options and expirations, proactively flagging upcoming deadlines.
General Legal & Regulatory
Support the company on general commercial and legal matters, coordinating with our external lawyers when specialised advice is required.
Review commercial agreements and translate external legal advice into clear, practical recommendations for internal teams.
Monitor relevant EU regulation affecting Meller's products, packaging, labelling and imports.
Identify new regulatory requirements, their impact on the business and their key implementation dates.
Coordinate with Product, Operations, Logistics and other teams to ensure new requirements are understood and implemented on time.
What we're looking for
Degree in Law and professional experience as a lawyer or Legal Counsel, either in-house or within a law firm.
Strong understanding of commercial contracts and confidence reviewing complex legal documentation.
Sensitivity to retail and commercial lease agreements. Previous exposure to retail contracts or real estate law is highly valued.
Ability to understand the commercial implications behind legal clauses, not just their technical meaning.
Experience coordinating with external law firms across different jurisdictions is highly valued.
Interest in or experience with EU product regulation, packaging, labelling and imports.
Highly organised, pragmatic and business-oriented, with strong attention to detail.
Comfortable working cross-functionally and communicating legal matters clearly to non-legal teams.
Native or bilingual English is a must. Spanish is highly valued.
What we offer
Permanent contract.
A central role in Meller's international growth and European retail expansion.
Exposure to legal matters across multiple international markets.
The opportunity to help structure Meller's internal legal function as the company grows.
Real autonomy and responsibility from day one.
Offices in Barcelona.
Meller is committed to an inclusive selection process. We welcome candidates of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities and strive to create a workplace where everyone can thrive.
We can't wait to meet you.
