Creating new games is a part of Rovio DNA and we are now looking for a Senior Animator to add to one of our growing teams working on a new action title. In this role you will be the only animator for the team, taking the lead in defining and enhancing the animation style for a brand new game. You will have the unique opportunity to further impact the look and feel of characters and worlds, from initial concept to final in-game implementation.
The majority of the team is today located in our studio in Izmir and we are also looking to expand the team to Barcelona, Spain. If you are in Türkiye but not in Izmir yet, we are able to support you with the move. If in Spain, we are able to provide work permit sponsorship if needed, but are not open to relocate to Spain at the moment.
You will have impact and fun at work by:
- Defining and enhancing the animation style for the game, constantly testing your ideas and setting the quality bar.
- Designing and producing compelling, high-quality keyframe animations for a diverse range of 2D and 3D assets, including characters, creatures, props, and UI elements.
- Implementing, testing, and troubleshooting animations within the Unity engine, utilizing animation state machines, blend trees, and scripting events to bring characters to life.
- Collaborating with artists and engineers to establish, document, and refine an efficient animation pipeline, proactively identifying opportunities for workflow improvements.
- Working closely with game designers and artists to ensure your animations strongly support gameplay mechanics and align with the overall artistic vision.
- Ensuring all animations are highly optimized for performance across a wide range of mobile platforms without compromising artistic quality.
- Actively participating in solving complex creative and technical challenges related to animation.
Experience and skills we are looking for:
- Solid experience in 3D and 2D animation within the gaming industry, with at least one shipped mobile title in a senior role.
- Proven experience in defining, managing, and refining animation development processes.
- Strong experience working with a game engine like Unity 3D on published mobile games.
- Strong understanding of animation principles
- Experience with Spine, and an ability to both rig and animate with it, particularly After Effects or similar tools
- Good understanding of 3D workflows, e.g. Blender, 3DsMax or Maya.
- A solid understanding of character rigging, skinning, and the technical constraints of real-time mobile animation.
- A strong artistic vision and the ability to create great-looking animations that feel amazing to play.
- Excellent collaboration skills and an openness to giving and receiving feedback in a fast-paced environment.
It would be nice if you also have the following skills:
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or C#
- Familiarity with version control systems
