Senior Coordinator - ESE

Custom Job Purpose

This position exists to oversee all aspects of federal and state ESE/IEP compliance in the district. The Senior Coordinator of ESE will be responsible for training, data analysis, monitoring, and consultation for all issues related to ESE and IEP compliance. The Senior Coordinator will lead district and school-based staff with state complaints. The Senior Coordinator will work closely with other district and school-level staff members to ensure compliance with the federal IDEA mandate as well as Florida Statutes regarding students with disabilities. The Senior Coordinator works collaboratively across departments to enhance the learning, social-emotional development, mental health, and behavior of students eligible for ESE protections and/or support.

Essential Functions of this Job

The Senior Coordinator is responsible for managing all investigations and documentation required by the state regarding state complaints and any corrective action that is assigned. The Senior Coordinator provides district-level training, support and consultation to all schools on issues related to state complaints and FLDOE indicator compliance. The Senior Coordinator monitors IEP compliance data at the school and district level to identify and address issues related to compensatory services. The Senior Coordinator is responsible for creating and providing training on ESE Compliance topics including service documentation, accommodations documentation, discipline procedures and federal requirements. The Senior Coordinator will provide and ensure monitoring and compliance with all criteria, policies and procedures related to ESE. The Senior Coordinator supervises the fulfillment of all duties related to independent educational evaluations. The Senior Coordinator will consult with school administrators on issues related to State Complaints and Compensatory Services. As a member of the ESE leadership team, the Senior Coordinator will work collaboratively with other district-level departments, including, but not limited to, Student Services, Behavior & Mental Health, Discipline, MTSS, School Counseling, and other departments as needed to meet district or division initiatives. The Senior Coordinator will collaborate with the Senior Director of ESE to address systemic concerns related to IEP implementation and state indicator compliance. The Senior Coordinator will work with the ESE leadership team and staff to resolve IEP complaints at school, district, state or federal level when necessary. The Senior Coordinator will monitor student progress using state indicators as outlined in the APR (Annual Performance Report) provided annually by FDOE and implement district improvement plans.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college with a master’s degree in education or educational leadership. Florida DOE certification in Exceptional Student Education is required. Three to five years of experience as an ESE teacher is required. Three to five years of experience as an ESE district staff member is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws regarding students with disabilities.

Work Context

Requires sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, computers, and digital compliance and communication platforms. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public. Travel between multiple district locations is necessary.

Physical Environment

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Requires sitting for the majority of the day, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects infrequently weighing up to 20 pounds.
