Senior Software Engineer - Data Ops

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Ops team. In this role, you will lead the backend development of our internal applications, which directly impact Factorial’s sales and billing ecosystems.Your mission is to engineer highly resilient, scalable backend systems and robust cloud architectures that connect internal users, external clients, and financial workflows. You won't be managing data lakes or core data warehouses; instead, you will own the full product lifecycle from architecture to deployment. What will you do?

• Own the backend architecture of internal sales, invoicing, and billing applications, ensuring maximum availability, security, and performance using a modern cloud stack.
• Design and maintain robust backend workflows capable of handling critical financial data with high reliability and fault tolerance.
• Integrate global payment platforms and APIs (such as Stripe or Adyen) to optimize our internal financial flows.
• Develop end-to-end products with strong support from our design and product teams, ensuring applications meet the needs of both internal and external users.
• Embed AI into your workflow using GitHub and modern AI tools to accelerate development and build smart agents.
• Drive agile practices within the team, participating in structured Pull Request reviews, continuous deployment, and collaborative specifications.

Your Profile

• Experience: You have 5+ years of professional experience as a Backend or Software Engineer.
• Tech Stack: Strong foundation in database management, Docker containers, and modern cloud infrastructure architecture. You are language-agnostic and focused on choosing the best tool for the job.
• Backend Robustness: Deep understanding of building reliable, secure, and production-ready APIs, handling concurrency, data integrity, and system monitoring.
• Domain Knowledge: Background in fintech, payment platforms, or financial applications is highly valued.
• Product-First Thinking: You understand why an application is built, how it adapts to clients, and how it impacts the business.
• AI as a Habit: You actively leverage AI assistants and automation tools in your daily coding routine.
• Collaboration: Comfortable working with Agile methodologies, peer reviews, and cross-functional teams.

Bonus Points
• Experience developing or integrating AI agents.

The hiring process

If you apply, here’s what to expect:

1. A first conversation with our Talent Acquisition Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level. We will also check our Engineering Rubrics (check them out, they are open!) and the salary in your position.
2. A second conversation with the team’s Engineering Manager. This is about making sure we can work together. Here you will have a conversation about the team, their needs, your profile and how can you complement it. Expect to have a mix of a human and technical conversation.
3. A Live Engineering Challenge with two Factorial engineers: At Factorial, we’re passionate about hiring engineers who can think clearly, communicate well, leverage the best tools, and learn very fast. In this challenge, we’re not looking for a finished product, but for how you structure problems, ask questions, use technology, and reason about solutions.
4. One last coffee-chat with our CTO, where you can get all the answers about Factorial’s culture, business vision, or anything else that interests you.
