Job Description - Senior Electrical System Engineer

All of our satellite projects involve a very broad range of expertise, covering for example design, electrical analysis, software, avionics architecture, radiation, EMC, thermal, testing, and integration. This requires a broad and flexible skill set for all those working at OHB Sweden. With this in mind, and in order to support the existing team, we are looking for a skilled senior electrical system engineer, who has exposure and familiarity to power and data architectures for embedded systems.

The Electrical System engineer is expected to lead the overall electrical design of the satellite, interacting with satellite system engineers but also subsystems engineers (Power, Data, On Board Software, Thermal, Telecommand amp; Telemetry, Mechanical, AOCS, etc.), and perform system level design activities (avionics architecture, satellite layout review, requirements specifications, analysis, etc.), but is also able to follow the design through all the stages of specification, procurement and functional testing. Naturally, all these steps require close interactions with the other experts in house covering the other areas of engineering listed above.

The work is mostly executed in a typical office environment, but the hardware is handled in our own clean rooms, electrical labs, and environmental labs. So being comfortable in a typical engineering office/project environment, whilst also being at ease in a lab environment, is very important.

We are looking for a team-player, able to learn quickly and to provide technical advice to team members, as well has having the ability to work autonomously. The Senior Electrical System Engineer will work in close cooperation with system, subsystem, and AIT engineers. Capability for problem solving and initiative are necessary as well as the ability to work in a pragmatic way focusing on finding the right level of quality and to deliver on time.

Tasks breakdown can be summarized roughly as:

  • Design and system engineering in the areas of avionics architecture, power distribution, grounding scheme, digital communications, harnessing, avionics unit requirement specifications, avionic unit selection, etc...
  • Defining and designing test plans, procedures, setups, documenting (drawings, schematics) with rather open initial definitions.
  • Support ongoing projects in the engineering, including creating procedures, procuring hardware, integrating the test, executing the test and documenting the results.
  • Support future programs and projects with planning and budgeting for the purpose of proposals and Ramp;D
  • Be able to provide clear and coherent reporting and presentations in the English language

Required qualifications:

  • As a minimum, Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic or related disciplines,
  • At least 6 years of experience in a design and testing environment related to data communications and /or power engineering in embedded systems,
  • Experience in high-speed data transfer techniques design and implementation, or other high-speed digital communications requiring signal integrity constraints,
  • Experience of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC),
  • Experience with Spice simulators
  • Very good understanding of electrical schematics and technical datasheets/ user manuals,
  • Familiarity with MATLAB
  • Familiarity with hardware handling and testing,
  • Fluent in the English language, both spoken and written,
  • Located in, or willingness to relocate to, Stockholm, Sweden.

Added advantageous qualifications:

  • Experience in the Space Business and knowledge of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS),
  • Familiarity with Python program language
  • Experience in radiation engineering (simulation, testing),
  • Comfortable with basic mechanical and electrical construction,
  • Additional related certifications.

The Senior Electrical System Engineer will work in the Avionics and Electrical department and report to the Head of Department. Travels may be required (3-5 trips per year primarily within Europe).

If you wish to participate to the development of future space systems, feel confident that your experience and qualifications match the above requirements and want to find yourself in a dynamic and inspiring work environment, then we very much look forward to hearing from you!
