Main Function / Purpose of Job 

Working closely with the Engineering Team (together with OEM and supply base as necessary) to ensure that, from inception, emerging component concepts and designs are inherently tooling / equipment / process feasible and robust, fully accommodating the principle of Design for Manufacture, both in terms of function and life cycle. To recognise, and work towards, a cost-optimised component / tooling design solution, delivering acceptable and repeatable part quality.

Main Missions And Results

  • Responsible for conducting activities within its department in an effective manner towards achieving common objectives of IAC (name of plant) as well as the IAC Group.
  • Reporting deviations from the standard and takes appropriate measures and corrective actions.
  • Take action to achieve the operational objectives set out in production plans and indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide technical support for all aspects of creating and maintaining a preferred IAC supplier listing, based upon a ‘Framework Agreement’, communicating effectively with Purchasing personnel. This to accommodate ongoing risk (and Total Cost of Ownership) analysis.
  • Supply tooling assumption for Purchase-driven RFQs as requested.
  • Provide timely VFM support for negotiations with OEM so as to meet individual programme timing constraints.
  • Support and guide Product Design personnel in ensuring DFM.
  • To facilitate the necessary links with suitable suppliers for timely design inputs in compliance with IAC TSoW.
  • Act as conduit between Product Design and supplier for iterative CAE (Autodesk) inputs, and oversee appropriate execution.
  • Liaise with Manufacturing personnel to confirm that tooling designs are sympathetic to planned process flow.
  • Utilise, as appropriate, DFMEA & PFMEA methodology in achieving optimised part and tool design.
  • Ensure that tool designs adhere fully to latest issue IAC tooling Specification.
  • Sign-off tool GA for press fit and service compliance and escalate any aspects of tool design / function (though covered by TSoW) that could be considered marginal or non-preferred.
  • Critically analyse robustness of supplier design and manufacturing timeline.
  • Closely monitor supplier’s adherence to timeline at mutually agreed intervals, with visits / utilizing photographic evidence of progress, as appropriate to manufacturing location, reporting regularly.
  • Attend T0, and subsequent supplier-based trials, as necessary to confirm compliance to (or satisfactory progress towards) all acceptance criteria elements of TSoW.
  • Act as principal point of contact for all communications with supplier.
  • Throughout the period of manufacture and introduction to plant, manage ECR’s, providing VFM support, as necessary, for Purchasing initiatives.
  • Provide support to Product Engineers in pursuit of tooling / secondary equipment trials, commissioning and plant sign-off, to Job 1 + 90 days, but beyond if circumstances dictate.
  • Manage the completion and supply of all tool and equipment transfer documentation packs, including GAs, dimensional data, recommended spares listings, warranty compliance, maintenance schedules etc.
  • Responsible for providing information and reports on the current implementation of tasks to its immediate superior.
  • Co-corresponds for new projects implemented in the company through active participation and opinions on projects in the subordinate area.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Degree in the discipline of mechanical engineering, machine or electrical engineering.
  • Extensive experience in a toolmaking / process / secondary equipment manufacturing environment, covering manufacturing processes routinely utilised in IAC programmes - conventional injection moulding, twin-shot, back injection, IMD, slush – PU / TPO skin etc.
  • Extensive exposure to Automotive Industry methods and approach.
  • Fluent English language skills required
  • A clear ability to implement timely DFM inputs.
  • Flexibility regarding frequent business travel.
  • Evidence of managing the detail of time critical programme tooling elements.
  • Ability to negotiate - on equal terms - with supplier representatives, regarding both technical and commercial issues.
  • Well-developed time management and interpersonal skills.
