One of the biggest challenges within healthcare globally is reducing injuries that occur during care. Medical education and training are key, especially as a large part of the training can now be performed outside the operating room. Surgical Science is a world leader in the development of virtual reality simulators for evidence-based training. The simulators enable surgeons and other medical specialists to train and improve their psycho-motor skills and instrument handling before entering the clinical environment. Alongside proprietary products, Surgical Science works with simulation solutions for medical device companies that develop instruments for clinical use, such as robotic surgery.

The headquarters are in Gothenburg, with additional offices in Stockholm, Tel Aviv, Cleveland, Seattle and Shenzhen. The virtual reality simulators are used by medical training centers and institutes worldwide for practice, validation and certification of students, surgeons, and medical doctors. Our products help save lives and drive positive patient outcomes, every day across the world.

CIO – Job Description

Surgical Science has become the world-leading simulation company for medical training through a period of organic and acquisitive growth. Since the market is still in its infancy, we have seen great potential with our products and now is a time where we are growing rapidly, with an increased demand for our products and services. The position will be based in the company HQ in Gothenburg.

As the Chief Information Officer, you will be responsible for managing the IT department, reporting to the CRDO (Chief R&D Officer) at Surgical Science.

Responsibilities:

You will be in charge of planning, budgeting, purchasing, operating and servicing company IT equipment and services. Additionally, you will oversee the IT operation set up, ensuring it enhances serviceability to all company employees, supporting them in their work and contributing to the company’s success and IT strategies. Your responsibilities will include:

Leadership (20%)

• Managing the global IT team across Sweden, the US, Israel, and potentially other locations.


• Ensure IT systems and services align with company IT strategies and remain at a high service level.

Strategy & Planning (40%)

• Planning and approving an IT strategy for the company that will align with our company goals, culture and our business requirements.


• Planning and approving a budget for IT in the organization.


• Take action to ensure compliance with relevant international IT standards and certifications through continuous monitoring and updates.

Operations & Service Management (40%)

• Operating purchasing processes and budget control processes relating to the company IT operations.


• Building and operating IT service functions to the organization – helpdesk, emergency response after hours, service operation for offsite and traveling employees, etc.


• Executing all IT related operations in the company.


• Maintaining constant status monitor and reporting of the company IT services and operations.

Requirements:

• Must be able to work in-office in Gothenburg, Sweden.


• A university degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or similar


• At least 3 years’ professional experience in leading an IT department and its infrastructure (network, servers, routers, modems, storage, OS, and so on.)


• Recent experience (within the past 5 years) in with Windows environment, modern IT infrastructure security and communication solutions,


• Recent experience (within the past 5 years) in Microsoft Cloud environment and on-prem solutions


• Proven technical experience with Windows technologies based IT systems


• Proven experience in people management in technological environments, preferably in IT/Tech-operations/R&D.


• Proven experience planning a budget and executing it for IT operations.


• Fluent English. Business-level English is a plus.
