Engineering Manager - Vehicle Motion Control

Apply for this job

The opportunity

We're currently looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Vehicle Motion Control team. Someone to join our Chassis Systems department to deliver world class chassis & vehicle dynamics performance in our vehicles. Someone with a passion for electric mobility, an interest in technology, and a desire to create the change we know is needed. And someone who doesn't mind the occasional bit of sustainable travel in the service of a cleaner form of electric performance.

The Vehicle Motion Control team is one of the key pillars within Chassis Systems, that has full responsibility to define and manage the Chassis Sub-System design and functions for our vehicles, taking ownership of all aspects including implementation, system safety, system validation & calibration. The Vehicle Motion Control team is a global team that covers all Polestar vehicle programmes, that has key interfaces both internally and externally.

This position is located primarily at our Gothenburg site, but also covers other sites within Sweden and the UK. There will be some expectations of travel, to our Sweden & UK locations, but also potentially across Europe and China depending on the needs of the team and activities for a given project. We believe in a hybrid model when it comes to remote and onsite work, knowing that both in-person collaboration and individual time to focus are needed. What matters most is that people get the time, and support, to do what needs to be done. And to enjoy doing it, of course.

The responsibilities

In this role, you'll be expected to lead the Vehicle Motion Control team, supporting and coaching team members, defining team priorities, providing technical direction and experience to fulfil the scope of the team’s deliverables. Working as part of the Chassis Systems leadership team, you'll be instrumental in delivering world class Chassis Systems on all vehicles. See below for a more thorough breakdown of the various tasks and areas you'll be responsible for:

  • Systems Engineering covering Brakes, Steering and Suspension (FO/SO/EO)
  • Chassis Domain SW management, including Integration, handling & FIP
  • System Validation, Calibration & Tuning (SIL, MIL & Vehicle)
  • System Safety – ISO26262
  • Technology roadmap and future system strategy

The ideal candidate

In order to succeed in this role, and at Polestar in general, there are a few characteristics you'll need to have. Tenacity. Flexibility. Curiosity. Drive. The ability to take the initiative, to meet deadlines & requirements, and to abandon ideas when they're not feasible.

You must have a strong technical background, having the ability to provide leadership to all team members across a diverse range of experience levels, activity types & subject areas. The wide scope of the team needs you to be able to manage resources, budgets and deliverables in a prioritized manner, without falter, creating confidence and trust both in the team and with the wider Polestar business.

You must have a vision for the future, as Polestar continues to grow and expand its vehicle line up and product offering. This vision must encompass both the technical solutions & strategy, but also the resources, skill and tools that compliment this vision.

In addition, you'll need the following qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant subject area or significant equivalent experience
  • 10 years+ experience in the field of Vehicle Motion, electronics, software, function development and ownership
  • Specialised within a certain area of Vehicle Motion e.g. brake tuning or model-based function development
  • Solid understanding of Chassis Systems & Vehicle Dynamics
  • It will be seen as a strength if you come from a hands-on engineering background and would like to complement your engineering skills with leadership responsibility

Polestar is an international company, with various backgrounds represented. English, therefore, is the language of written and spoken communication. And though we have a global presence, we maintain the growth-mindset. Change happens often at Polestar. But so does progress. Expect an accelerating, exciting environment.

The process

If the above matches your ambitions, be sure to apply. Our selection process is ongoing, and the job advert will remain open until it’s filled.

The Polestar journey is an electric one.
