Empowering careers at ARJO

At Arjo, we know what moves us. We go above and beyond for people facing mobility challenges. We take every opportunity to work and grow as one team and take pride in sharing our knowledge and experience. Does that sound like something that moves you too?

This could be your opportunity to begin a challenging and rewarding career in a healthcare company that empowers movement for people with mobility challenges.

We are looking to strengthen our small, but dedicated IP function with a patent attorney. Arjo’s global IP team consists today of one patent attorney (engineer) and one intellectual property counsel (lawyer).  As a patent attorney at Arjo, you will help building and maintaining a strategically relevant portfolio of inventions and patents within mechanics and health technology. You will be working closely with our R&D and Product Management departments from the first idea of an invention to the finished product, and through the life cycle of the product and patent.  We offer an exciting and challenging position in an open, friendly and global environment with good chances to really make an impact, develop and create value. Arjo’s IP team is part of Legal & Business Compliance with two additional lawyers working with general legal matters and business compliance, and one paralegal supporting the whole function. The role is located at the headquarters in Malmö, Sweden, reporting to the Group General Counsel.

Responsibilities • Evaluation of inventions in continuous dialogue with the R&D department.
• Freedom-to-operate and patent clearance investigations and analysis.
• Drive the work in Arjo Patent Committee.
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Managing Arjo's patent portfolio in cooperation with external IP counsels around the world.
• Counselling and providing training to in-house stakeholders to increase awareness on patent law and practice.
• Due-diligence evaluations in M&A projects in collaboration with the rest of the legal team.
• Competitor patent surveillance.
• Defending our patent rights and filing oppositions, in particular before the European Patent Office, but also support in litigation.

The ideal Candidate

As ideal for the position, we believe you have
• min. 5 years’ experience of patent work, either from working in-house or private practice – if the latter, you would need to demonstrate experience of managing direct clients.
• a degree within mechanical engineering, computer science, engineering physics or similar. European Patent Attorney qualification is an advantage, but not a requirement
• good communication skills and be able to use English as a working language fluently. Skills in further languages, e.g. French or German is an advantage.
Experience from MedTech sector and/or an international company is a merit.

• Driven, well-organized with excellent attention to detail, committed, flexible and a team player.
• Ability to work hands on, independently as well as in teams.
• Project leader skills and ability to influence.
• Demonstrate a positive and friendly manner, with a good sense of humor.

What we will offer in return
You will support our vision to be the most trusted partner in driving healthier outcomes for people facing mobility challenges. In return, we recognize and value our global employees. You will have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development.
