Senior Clay Modeler

As an experienced Clay Modeller, you will shape Volvo’s future designs through high‑quality physical modelling and craftsmanship.

Design development & modelling

• Collaborate with designers to develop vehicle designs in clay (primarily exterior, with some interior work)


• Translate sketches and digital concepts into precise physical models that reflect design intent and surface quality


• Build and refine show models for internal and external reviews

Decision support & impact

• Create models that support key design and management decisions


• Ensure accurate representation of proportions, surfaces, and design vision

Project ownership & leadership

• Own assigned projects, ensuring final model quality and delivery


• Lead modelling work in smaller projects and coordinate with team members


• Support planning, prioritization, and execution to meet timelines

Collaboration & ways of working

• Work closely with designers, engineers, project managers, and suppliers


• Communicate progress, challenges, and improvements clearly


• Contribute to a collaborative, feedback‑driven studio culture

Craftsmanship & quality

• Apply advanced clay modelling techniques with high precision and accuracy


• Prepare models for reviews with strong attention to detail, finish, and presentation

Experience & technical expertise

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the automotive industry


• Advanced clay modelling skills (Level 3 or equivalent) with strong understanding of automotive form and surfaces


• Proven ability to translate design intent into high‑quality physical models


• Experience in both exterior and interior modelling


• Ability to lead smaller projects and support team delivery

• Strong collaboration skills across design, engineering, and project teams


• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional studio environment


• Good command of English
