Job Description - Senior Engineering Manager - Material Flow

Northvolt has an exciting job opening for a Senior Engineering Manager to work in the field of Material Flow Automation (e.g. Robots, Automatic Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), Conveyor Systems, Production-Buffers, AGVs etc.).

This role offers the opportunity to lead a team which will take a key role in shaping Northvolt’s First Gigafactory in Ett to produce the worlds greenest battery cells.

About the job

You will be leading a team of highly skilled Engineering Managers and Engineers, to rapidly deploy and implement a highly efficient material flow system in a world class giga factory in Skellefteå.

Under your leadership there will be, among others, Engineering Managers, System Engineers, Material Flow Engineers and Project Managers.

Together with your team, you will focus on the next generation material flow equipment following its life cycle from detailed design and development to installation and commissioning, start of production and beyond.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mentor and support engineers and engineering managers through consistent feedback, navigation of challenges, and providing development opportunities to encourage technical and professional growth.
  • Manage the Investment allocated for the development of the scopes under your responsibility.
  • Manage the overall scope of delivery for multiple manufacturing blocks. From concept to production to production improvement.
  • Lead a team of engineers and coordinate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize material flow equipment and systems that maximize production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Manage and allocate resources effectively to meet project goals and maintain high standards of efficiency and quality.
  • Shape the future of material handling in the battery manufacturing environment by interacting with key material flow and automation solution suppliers in an international setting.
  • Identify and proactively resolve material flow bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and production constraints with a data-driven approach.
  • Negotiate and mange the relationship with multiple suppliers.

You bring experience managing Engineering Managers and Engineers in an industrial environment, delivering complex equipment and processes.
You know how to lead and create high performing teams.

With your expertise in technical project management, you support your team in being the key driver in design, commissioning and ramp up of material flow equipment.
You are passionate about managing engineers in complex technical environments and desire to make a significant impact in the sustainable battery cell manufacturing industry.

The person we are looking for is driven, passionate and structured. You value a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity and innovation.

You are used to a high paced work environment and got good time management skills.

You make things happen, and are a problem solver.

We believe that you have:

  • Engineering degree (Industrial/Process/Production/Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical/Mechatronic or similar).
  • Proven leadership skills in a demanding fast paced production environment. You managed high skilled teams before.
  • 5+ years of experience within process-driven or discrete process industries such as: Automotive, FMCG, Battery, Packaging, Metal, Semiconductors, Fine Chemicals, Pharma, Food etc.
  • Valuable experience in multi-cultural environment.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to address complex technical challenges.
  • Qualities that we cherish are flexibility, sense of quality, friendliness, motivation to take on new challenges, grit and a sense of humour.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving skills.

Nice to have: Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.
