Master Thesis within: AI for Building and Maintaining Husqvarnas Enterprise Design System

With AI rapidly transforming digital product design and development, there is significant opportunity to leverage AI not only in products, but also in the design system’s development, maintenance, and governance. 

This thesis investigates how AI can assist teams in building and running Husqvarna’s design system, and how the system can be structured to support efficient AI-driven workflows. 

Thesis assignment 

The goal of this thesis is to investigate how AI can support the development, governance, and maintenance of Husqvarna’s enterprise design system. The work should explore both technical and organizational aspects and provide concepts and recommendations for how the design system can be designed to support AI-assisted operations over time. The thesis will be conducted in close collaboration with Husqvarna’s Design System team and cross-functional digital teams. 

The work includes 

• Research on current AI capabilities and trends within design systems 

• Investigation of AI-assisted component development and maintenance

• Exploration of AI support for documentation, accessibility, governance, and quality assurance 

• Investigation of token management and multi-brand theming with AI support 

• Analysis of workflows for designers and developers using AI 

• Development of concepts, prototypes, or proof-of-concepts 

• Recommendations for future architecture, tooling, and governance 

Expected outcomes 

The expected outcome of the thesis is a set of insights, concepts, and recommendations describing how Husqvarna can leverage AI to efficiently build, maintain, and evolve its enterprise design system. 

Expected deliverables may include: 

• A research summary and market/technology analysis 

• Architectural and workflow recommendations 

• Proposed principles for AI-ready design systems 

• Prototype concepts or proof-of-concepts 

• Recommendations for future implementation and governance
