Job Description - Architect Concept Development Manager

JOB PURPOSE The Architecture & Design department is responsible for the interior and exterior design development of vessels within the MSC Cruises New Building Programme, working in partnership with technical, marine, and naval architecture teams. Reporting to the Director, the Architect Concept Development Manager is responsible for leading the interior and exterior design development of all vessels aligned to a single brand; MSC Cruises. The role will ensure that all guest and crew areas of vessels within the brand will be designed, developed, and outfitted in accordance with product and brand requirements whilst balancing schedules, quality, and cost. They will be required to follow the project from concept stage through to final delivery. The role will require frequent visits to vessels in operation, shipyards, and the premises of subcontractors to carry out supporting works as necessary.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES · Works in partnership with the Experience Innovation department in the development and execution of the Product Briefs. · Provides preliminary technical studies and sketches to support the development of new concepts. · Undertakes preliminary cost/impact analysis study in the preparation of new concepts. · Supports the Head of Design & Innovation in the creation and presenting of new concepts to internal departments and Owner. · Engages with external consultants and ensure they execute concept projects in alignment with Design/Product briefs. · Leads the definition of initial plan, RCPs and Concept visuals with external consultants. · Ensure appropriate coordination with internal technical departments on particular venues (Catering, LES, Houselighting, Marine, etc). · Supports the Architecture team with Yard coordination in the lead up to Standard Analysis and RFC processes. · Defines and hands over the preliminary Town Hall presentation to the Architecture team. · Alongside the Experience Innovation department, ensures that the original concept design is held through the development of the project with the Architecture team and Yard. · Supports the Head of Design & Innovation in the investigation of new market trends, guest experiences, technology and attractions. · Works in partnership with Project Directors to ensure vessels under development are delivered on time, budget and quality including contributing towards reporting, risk, and issue management. · Works with brand product teams to ensure vessels under development meet business requirements, that required input is obtained and ongoing feedback is provided, and collaborative design is achieved. · Works with brand product teams to help develop product briefs, developing preliminary technical sketches and ideas. · Development of design concept presentation along with product team for the owner. · Assists the Architecture team in the drawing approval and shipyard deliverables following owner approval of the concept. · Works with Project & Site Teams to carry out final inspection and approval of indoor and outdoor public areas and cabins / suites as part of ship delivery activities. Validates the final product meets the original design and intent. · Ensures adoption of standard business processes related to project management, commercial management, risk and issue management, document, and data management. · Coaches and mentor's junior staff · Supports the Director in Pre-Contract / R&D Activities as required and board presentations.QUALIFICATIONS · Language: English (fluent both written and spoken)· Bachelors or Masters degree in architecture / interior design with focus on Ship / Yacht design preferred · Minimum 7-year experience working in Architecture/Interior Design studio environment. · Demonstrable strong 2D and 3D drafting skills using AutoCAD / MicroStation / Rhino / Sketchup or similar. · Strong Microsoft Office package skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). · Fluent in communicating through multiple channels including presentations, reports, and documentation. · Availability to travel as when required.VISA REQUIREMENTS The existing right to work in the UK is preferred.
