We are currently seeking a highly motivated Global Portfolio Sustainability Lead to lead the Sustainable and Responsible Business (SRB) agenda in the global R&D projects and product life cycle management activities, working closely with global MPTs and AIM teams, embedding sustainability principles in the product portfolio by strengthening product sustainability positioning, global stewardship standards and supporting local stewardship strategies in coordination with regions.

Your responsibilities:

  • Represent the SRB organization in the global R&D project teams such as MPTs (Multi-Functional Project Teams) to drive sustainability agenda and priorities in strategic products.
  • Work with R&D project teams by leading the product sustainability profiling, through collaboration with functions and local teams to identify strengths and potential environmental adverse effects with regards to Syngenta’s CP portfolio. CP Product Sustainability profiling should be inclusive of aspects such as, but not limited to, product safety, regulatory requirements, societal expectations, and concerns (including NGOs, value chain) and, conscious about product uses for pest control and conservation agriculture, integrated pest management, precision agriculture, digital and other innovative approaches.
  • Work with global project teams to drive SRB solutions, for example with:
  • Technical teams to identify proof points to develop a comprehensive sustainability positioning for CP portfolio.
  • Regulatory, for advocacy and registration acceleration strategies.
  • Communication and Value Chain, for broader stakeholder engagement and value proposition, such as introducing and facilitating Innovation Dialogues
  • Regions and country teams, for local contextualization/adaptations and local implementation of sustainability messaging, stewardship strategies and stakeholders’ engagement.
  • Define and harmonize global SRB recommendations for Syngenta’s CP products, tailored to specific product conditions and uses in coordination with regions, that informs Syngenta’s global CP products governance and (examples, global stewardship recommendation for product “A”)

What are we looking for:

  • Degree in business or science (natural or political) or communication with min. 5 years’ experience in public policy and sustainability, managing sustainability projects across multiple functions in country or region
  • Technical knowledge of the key sustainability and stewardship issues in agriculture
  • Knowledge of legal/corporate governance
  • Project and program management skills
  • Proven general knowledge of Syngenta’s CP portfolio and product lines
  • Proven general knowledge of main pain points from farmers and their key buying factors
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Syngenta’s culture, with proven experience regarding internal stakeholders’ engagement and decision bodies
  • Proven track record in developing and setting standards for social and environmental sustainability management
  • Proven track record of achieving stretched targets in a complex matrix organization
