This way, the combination of species that normally do not coexist in natural settings may lead to novel technologies to tackle the problem of environmental pollution. In the frame of the Horizon Europe projects NYMPHE and MAR2PROTECT, we offer a PhD position dedicated to the exploration of microbial interactions and metabolic processes in artificial biofilms for the degradation of environmental pollutants, including the following tasks: - 3D bioprinting of bacterial communities - determining cellular physiology in 3D bioprinted structures - evaluation of metabolic interactions Your profile 3D-bioprinted artificial biofilms can become a valuable platform to investigate interactions between community members and their habitat under controlled conditions. To help establish this platform, we are looking for someone with a broad scientific and technological interest. You should have: - MSc in microbiology or related fields - knowledge of microbial metabolism and chemical analysis - interest in interdisciplinary problem solving - experience with 3D printing The position is initially limited to one year and will be prolongated after a committee evaluation.
