YOU will be involved in the following tasks:
- Develop new product solutions based on assessment of customer requirements, identification and evaluation of next best alternatives (NBAs), and identification of the value in use (ViU) of the proposed solution
- Work closely with other product developers, process engineers, program management, manufacturing and commercial teams in identifying critical product characteristics of new or existing products and optimize via formulation development to enable project progress and wins within required time lines and budget
- Develop effective experimental solutions and evaluation methods to screen new product development solutions at a bench scale identifying key measurable outputs and potential process challenges to scale to pilot as well as manufacturing
- Work with process team on raw material process and chemistry evaluations defining process and formulation boundaries to meet external customer CTQs, material specifications and statistical interactive effects of process and formulation development at pilot scale
- Set material properties targets, assess product feasibility, develop product solution to meet target, including work with the Product Stewardship and Quality teams to meet regulatory requirements
- Capture IP opportunities and ensure the freedom of operate along the project
- Reporting and documentation of formulation development, bench screening, and support of scale-up efforts to our Process Development, Project Management, Manufacturing and Core Technology Group customers.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Product Specialists, and Application Development Engineers to support customer validation of new product developments, advocate new products to market, and support customer trials
- Own all safety and quality aspects of formulation development to ensure compliance with Celanese standards
- Develop, document and provide training and literature (internal and external) on new product developments to enable increased technical acumen and awareness for process developers, product specialists and commercial groups
- Interface with customers and material suppliers to understand trends and materials available in the market that may support new product developments
What YOU will bring to the team:
- Minimum BS Chemical Engineering or related (Materials, Chemist, Polymer); advanced degree (MS or PhD) and graduate coursework related to polymers and or chemistry preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience
- Experience in polymer processing and polymer behavior (structure-property relationship, temperature and pressure effects, rheology, etc)
- Ability to solve complex engineering plastics formulation problems
- Ability to design, conduct experiments, analyze and communicate complex data and to conclude findings from experimental work
- Exceptional communications and teamwork focus
- Excellent safety mindset related to the complexities of an industrial setting and the hazards of polymer processing equipment
Desired:
- Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt
- Knowledge and experience in reactive extrusion chemistry and processes
- Experience in the processing of polymers via injection molding, blow molding, extrusion, and other converting methods
- Working knowledge of systematic/scientific processing techniques
