Job Description - Autonomy Program Manager

Gravis Robotics is a pioneer in developing autonomous excavation solutions for real-world construction applications. Our platforms integrate AI-driven autonomy, hardware engineering, and intuitive operator interfaces to reshape how machines operate in complex environments. As we expand our autonomy program, we seek a talented Program Manager to join our HQ in Zurich and help steer our product delivery forward.

Role Overview

As the Autonomy Program Manager, you will coordinate a cross-functional group of approximately 35 engineers across six functional teams. You’ll play a pivotal role in leading annual, quarterly, and sprint planning rituals, ensuring alignment with Gravis’s product and engineering groups. By focusing on capacity planning, cross-functional collaboration, on-time delivery, and dependencies mapping, you will maintain clarity and visibility of development priorities and progress across the organization.

Success in this role means effectively orchestrating teams and resources to meet product milestones while fostering transparency and confidence among both technical and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Comprehensive Program Coordination
- Own the end-to-end program plan for autonomy initiatives, in alignment with company-level objectives and key results (OKRs).
- Coordinate annual, quarterly, and sprint planning sessions, ensuring that each iteration’s goals are clear and achievable.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Alignment
- Work closely with product managers and engineering leads to establish and maintain a shared roadmap for hardware and software deliverables.
- Drive clarity and visibility of development progress, providing regular status updates and clear milestone tracking.

Capacity Planning & Resource Management
- Conduct ongoing assessments of team capacity to ensure each product squad is properly staffed for upcoming sprints.
- Manage resource allocation and adjust plans based on changing requirements or shifting priorities.

Agile & Product Operating Model
- Champion best practices for Agile methodologies, leveraging tools like Jira and Confluence to track sprints and maintain a clear knowledge base.
- Facilitate process improvements within the autonomy program, ensuring consistent, efficient workflows across squads.

Technical Engagement & Trust-Building
- Maintain a solid understanding of robotics fundamentals—covering sensors, embedded systems, and control software—to engage meaningfully with engineers.
- Participate in technical discussions to identify and resolve interdependencies, bridging program management and engineering perspectives.

Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
- Create dashboards and reports to visualize progress, risk, and dependencies for both technical teams and executives.
- Escalate issues proactively, ensuring decision-makers have the information needed to address challenges promptly.
- Help track and report company objectives and key results where applicable.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 2+ years of cross-functional program or project management experience, ideally involving hardware/software integration.
    • Proven track record working on complex, technical products in robotics, autonomous systems, or related industries.
    • Familiarity with perception, control systems, and real-time computing fundamentals.
    • Comfort engaging in high-level technical discussions with engineering teams.
    • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies and product operating models.
    • Proficiency in Jira, Confluence, and other project management tools.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and pivot as needed in a dynamic environment.

What We Offer

    • Impactful Work: Contribute to a product set to transform the construction industry through advanced robotics and autonomy.
    • Collaborative Environment: Join an interdisciplinary team of experts at our Zurich HQ, working on real-world innovations.
    • Professional Growth: Expand your leadership and technical expertise in a rapidly evolving field, with training opportunities and support.
Don't meet every requirement? If you're enthusiastic about this role but your experience doesn't match every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. You might be the perfect candidate for this or other positions.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and versatile team, and to be part of a young startup that will revolutionize heavy construction. Gravis Robotics offers a fair market salary and a working location in the vibrant city of Zurich. As a forward-facing startup, we understand that work-life balance and flexibility are important considerations for many professionals: If you are a highly qualified candidate with the requisite skills and experience, we encourage you to apply and discuss your preferred working arrangement during the interview process.

Gravis is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse team, and do not discriminate based upon race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender identity, gender expression, disability, veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics.

We are an international team that is working to solve problems with a global impact: to facilitate efficient communication and collaboration, proficiency in English is a requirement for all roles.
