Job Description

Your responsibilities

As an Electro-Mechanical and Automation Technician, you will join and support the team responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and developing the particle accelerator cryomagnet manufacturing infrastructure of the Large Magnet Facility (LMF) section, specifically within the framework of the High Field Magnet (HFM) programme. This manufacturing infrastructure includes a wide and diverse range of machines and equipment across several workshops, such as coil winding machines, large hydraulic presses, heat treatment furnaces, resin impregnation systems, welding systems, and more.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the engineer responsible for the LMF infrastructure in the development and upgrade of automation projects for the HFM programme, using Siemens PLCs and HMI interfaces.
  • Assisting the engineer and maintenance technicians with new machine wiring/rewiring projects, as well as small-scale mechanical upgrades to improve and adapt workshop machinery, and equipment to HFM requirements.
  • Supporting field maintenance technicians by managing and following up on all maintenance work orders related to the manufacturing infrastructure, including updating and completing records where necessary.
  • Requesting quotations, placing, and tracking part orders related to maintenance and HFM upgrade activities.
  • Keeping the LMF manufacturing infrastructure documentation up to date, such as updating electrical schematics and archiving equipment calibration records and certificates, in collaboration with the quality team.
  • Maintaining the archive of all critical programmes and settings running on the machinery and equipment, using various archiving tools provided and supported by CERN IT internal services.

 

Your profile

Technical skills:

  • Automation hardware and software (Siemens);
  • Electromechanical systems and hydraulics;
  • Electrical schematics (reading and updating);
  • CMMS/GMAO software (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems);
  • Version control software, such as GitLab, VersionDog, etc.

Soft skills:

  • Effective teamwork and collaboration;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and priorities;
  • Strong autonomy and self-organisation in daily tasks.

Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electromechanics/Automation (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree are not eligible.

Additional Information

Job closing date: 27.05.2025 (extended deadline: 09.06.2025) at 23:59 CEST.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week
