Job Description - Head of Media Rights

Department: IOC Television & Marketing Services

Location: Lausanne, Switzerland

Contract Type: Open-ended

Activity Level: 100%

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement. A truly global organisation, it acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all Olympic stakeholders, including the athletes, the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), the International Sports Federations (IFs), Organising Committees for the Olympic Games, the Worldwide Olympic Partners and Media Rights-Holders. It also works with public and private authorities, including the United Nations and other international organisations.

The Head of Media Rights role sits at the centre of the IOC’s commercial agenda and carries full responsibility for revenue generation across the global media rights portfolio in a highly strategic and international environment.

If you are a seasoned commercial leader, recognized by the global Media Rights ecosystem for driving great value via high impact commercial agreements, and the opportunity to shape how the Olympic Games are brought to audiences worldwide inspires you, we would like to speak with you.

Main responsibilities for the role will include:

Sales and negotiation

Lead the global commercialisation of the IOC’s media rights portfolio, driving revenue generation and long-term value across all major Olympic properties.

Own high-stakes international sales processes and negotiations, structuring competitive bids, developing partner strategies and securing optimal commercial outcomes across multiple markets.

Bring a forward-looking perspective on the media landscape, combining market insight, financial rigour and data-led analysis to anticipate trends, identify opportunities and position the IOC competitively against leading global sports properties.

Servicing

Ensure the long-term success and value delivery of IOC Media Rights Holders, with direct oversight of servicing strategy and execution.

Drive high-quality partner engagement across the lifecycle — from onboarding and integration to delivery and post-Games review — ensuring contractual commitments, operational excellence and overall partner satisfaction.

Act as a central point of coordination across key stakeholders, including internal IOC functions and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), to ensure seamless delivery of broadcast-related assets and programmes.

Contribute to and drive the implementation of commercial guidelines governing media rights exploitation.

Rights Protection

Oversee the IOC’s Rights Protection Programme, ensuring effective safeguarding of media rights across all markets.

Manage external partners and coordinate closely with internal teams to address infringement risks and protect the long-term value of the portfolio.

Leadership

Lead and develop the Media Rights team, setting clear direction and building a culture of performance, accountability and continuous improvement.

Drive ambitious commercial objectives while empowering the team to operate at a high level in a complex, international environment.

What we are looking for

  • An established commercial leader with a strong track record in media rights, ideally within a broadcaster, sports agency or sports governing body.

  • Sound understanding of the global broadcast and media landscape, content distribution, linear and streaming economics, rights valuation, and evolving media business models

  • Proven experience in structuring and negotiating complex global deals.

  • Strong leadership experience, with the ability to develop high-performing teams and operate effectively across diverse and multi-stakeholder environments.

  • Executive presence with the ability to lead high-stakes negotiations and influence senior stakeholders

  • Fluency in English or French is required, with strong communication skills in the other language. Familiarity with the Olympic Movement is an advantage.

What sets you apart

  • You combine strong commercial judgement with the ability to navigate complex, high-stakes deal environments with confidence.

  • You bring clarity and a results-oriented mindset to complex challenges, operating effectively under pressure.

  • You build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across geographies and cultures and influence at the highest level.

  • You bring discipline and foresight to delivering complex global initiatives.

What do we offer

  • The opportunity to join a one-of-a-kind value driven organisation with a unique mission in the world.

  • To steer the direction and ultimate results of an entire revenue stream, with the opportunity to lead, shape and develop an ambitious commercial team.

  • A central role in shaping how the Olympic Games are experienced by global audiences, through one of the most valuable and visible media rights portfolios in sport across the globe.

  • End-to-end ownership of a strategic commercial function, with direct impact on the IOC’s long-term revenue generation and market positioning.

  • Exposure to a truly global ecosystem, working with leading broadcasters, digital platforms and industry players across all major markets.

  • A high level of visibility and interaction with senior leadership, internal stakeholders and key external partners, operating at the heart of complex, high-value decision-making.

  • The opportunity to lead and influence in a multi-cultural, international environment, collaborating with colleagues and partners from across the Olympic Movement and beyond.

  • A flexible and rewarding work environment in Lausanne, with a strong focus on well-being, sustainability and work-life balance.

  • The chance to contribute to a purpose-driven organisation that promotes sport, inclusion and positive societal impact on a global scale.

Come and join an organisation where the spirit of inclusion, gender equality and diversity is embedded in its DNA and which focuses on what unites us – a passion for sport and its values. Work in a flexible and rewarding environment which offers competitive employee benefits and numerous incentives to live a sustainable, healthy and active life. By joining us, you become part of the Olympic Movement and help to build a better world through sport. You will have the opportunity to work with people of more than 70 nationalities.
