At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on
Introduction
Are you a versatile mechanical designer with a passion for challenging projects in the field of particle physics experiments? Then seize this opportunity and join the LHCb design and integration office where you will contribute to future enhancements and upgrades of the LHCb detector!
LHCb ( ) is one of the four large experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The detector consists of several subsystems such as a high-precision (~10 μm resolution) silicon detector operating in a secondary vacuum, a 1500-ton dipole magnet and a large-area (~ 6 m x 5 m), lightweight scintillating fibre detector, just to give a few examples. Its operation requires complex infrastructure in terms of support structures, electrical power, cooling and data acquisition.
Integration studies are pivotal to ensure that the different detector components and associated services come together as a coherent whole.
