Job Description - Mechanical/Mechatronic Development Engineer
Short Facts
Location: Zürich Oerlikon, Switzerland
Employment Type: Full-time
Working Mode: On-site
About Flexion
At Flexion, we’re building the intelligence layer powering the next generation of humanoid robots. Our mission is to accelerate the transition from fragile prototypes to real-world humanoid deployment. We are founded by leading scientists in robot reinforcement learning (ex-Nvidia, ex-ETH Zürich), and backed by leading international VC firms. In just months, we’ve gone from our first line of code to deploying real humanoid capabilities.
The Role
We are looking for an innovative and experienced Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer to join our hardware team. In this role, you will be designing, prototyping, and testing advanced mechatronic systems for next-generation robots, including humanoids.
You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including robotics controls, software infrastructure, and field testing, to ensure seamless integration of your designs into robotic systems. From concept and requirements definition through prototyping, testing, and final production, you will drive the full design lifecycle and contribute directly to shaping cutting-edge robotic hardware.
What You’ll Be Doing
Design and develop mechatronic systems and components for robotic applications
Create and refine 3D CAD models
Prototype, test, and validate mechanical and mechatronic subsystems
Work hands-on in the lab: building prototypes, running tests, and troubleshooting issues
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure successful system-level integration
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (FH/ETH) in Robotics, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering.
5+ years of experience developing mechatronic products, from concept to production
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Oneshape, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or similar).
Solid background in mechanical design for electromechanical systems (actuators, motors, sensors)
Knowledge of product design principles, tolerancing (tolerance stack up, GD&T), and material selection.
Familiarity with electrical and control systems integration in mechatronic products.
Experience with FEA
Knowledge of DFMA principles
Practical skills in hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting
Proficient in English (spoken and written).
Nice to have:
Experience designing highly integrated actuators and gearboxes and the relevant tools e.g. KISSsoft
Experience with mechatronic design: Knowledge about sensors (e.g. inductive, optical, capacitive sensors), cable routing / harness design and electrical machines (PMSM with FOC) and the ability to integrate components into functional mechatronic systems.
Previous work experience in the robotics or aerospace sectors.
What We Offer
Competitive compensation package
A front-row seat at one of Europe’s most ambitious robotics companies
An energetic, collaborative team with a bias for action
The opportunity to help shape the team’s culture from the ground up
