Metals Trader (Physical)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Physical Metals Trader to develop and manage a profitable trading book within a dynamic and entrepreneurial commodities trading environment based in Zug or Geneva.

This role is suited to a commercially driven trader with strong physical market expertise, the ability to originate flows, and a disciplined approach to risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  Develop, manage and grow a profitable physical metals trading book (base metals and/or minor metals depending on profile).

  
  


• 
  

  Originate and maintain relationships with producers, counterparties, industrial clients, and intermediaries.

  
  


• 
  

  Structure and negotiate physical purchase and sales contracts.

  
  


• 
  

  Identify arbitrage opportunities across regions and logistics chains.

  
  


• 
  

  Manage price risk through hedging strategies (LME, CME or other relevant exchanges).

  
  


• 
  

  Monitor spreads, freight economics, warehouse dynamics, and inventory positions.

  
  


• 
  

  Optimise logistics, storage, and financing structures.

  
  


• 
  

  Work closely with operations, risk, finance and compliance teams to ensure smooth execution.

  
  


• 
  

  Contribute to strategic expansion into new markets or metals where relevant.

  
  

Profile

• 
  

  5–10+ years’ experience in physical metals trading.

  
  


• 
  

  Proven track record of generating P&L within a trading house environment.

  
  


• 
  

  Strong understanding of LME markets, hedging instruments and spread management.

  
  


• 
  

  Solid network across producers, consumers and/or recyclers.

  
  


• 
  

  Deep understanding of physical logistics and contract structures.

  
  


• 
  

  Entrepreneurial mindset with disciplined risk management.

  
  


• 
  

  Ability to operate independently while contributing to a team-driven environment.

  
  


• 
  

  Based in or willing to relocate to Switzerland (Zug or Geneva).
