Job Description - Field Access Officer Land Access & Permitting

SGE is preparing an ambitious 3D seismic acquisition campaign in the La Broye region (cantons of Vaud and Fribourg), a key step in the development of future geothermal resources, scheduled to start in Q4 2026. The study covers approximately 500 km² of diverse and challenging environments, including urban and industrial areas, agricultural land, forests, rivers, and two lakes. This large-scale project aims to optimize the future siting of geothermal drilling and actively contribute to the energy transition.

To ensure smooth operations, robust permitting and land access coordination is critical to secure the required authorizations, build trust with local stakeholders, and coordinate with landowners and local authorities. The work is structured into three phases:

  • Phase 1: Preparation and permit acquisition prior to seismic operations (6 months)

  • Phase 2: On-site support during seismic acquisition (5 months)

  • Phase 3: Post-operations follow-up and compensation management (1 month)

The Field Access Officer acts on behalf of SGE and work under the supervision of the seismic contractor, who coordinates, monitors, and manages day-to-day permitting activities, in close and continuous collaboration with SGE.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a key point of contact to inform and engage landowners, farmers, fishermen, and local authorities about the seismic project

  • Secure access rights and permits for site access and equipment installation

  • Provide hands-on support to field teams (vibroseis trucks, sensor deployment) and resolve access issues as they arise

  • Accompany seismic operations in the field, including nighttime operations during Phase 2 (planned approximately from October to March)

  • Maintain constructive relationships with residents and respond clearly and professionally to questions

  • Remain calm and professional in situations of disagreement or opposition, and actively de-escalate tensions in the field

  • Identify, document, and follow up on potential damages, including compensation management

Duration & availability

Fixed-term contract (multiple openings)

  • First wave: 10 Permitting Officers starting 1 April 2026

    • Duration: 6 months (Phase 1) or 12 months (Phases 1 to 3)

  • Second wave: 10 additional Permitting Officers starting October 2026

    • Duration: 6 months (Phases 2 and 3)

  • Workload: 80–100%

  • Working hours: Flexible, including occasional extended hours and day/night field operations during seismic acquisition

Candidate profile

  • Education or professional experience relevant to field operations, land access, permitting, infrastructure, environmental projects, or public/stakeholder relations

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is welcome but not mandatory

  • Native French or excellent written and spoken French (essential)

  • German and English are assets

  • Valid driving licence (frequent field travel expected) is an advantage

  • Strong interest in renewable energy and sustainable projects

  • Candidates with strong local roots, good knowledge of the local area, and familiarity with local stakeholders will be given particular consideration

Key skills

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different audiences

  • Strong interpersonal skills when interacting with residents and municipal authorities

  • Enjoys human contact and can explain technical concepts in a clear, accessible way

  • Active listening, negotiation, and constructive problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and professional in tense or unexpected situations

  • Team spirit and collaborative mindset

  • Enjoys working in the field and being close to operations

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in documentation

  • Autonomy and strong sense of responsibility

  • Adaptability and composure in unexpected situations

  • Flexibility regarding working hours (occasionally extended hours; day/night operations)
