Job Description - Senior principal scientist (80-100%, m/f/d)
Liom is a Swiss health-tech startup dedicated to revolutionizing the field of personalized health monitoring. Our objective is to develop the first health wearable monitoring glucose non-invasively. We will launch our wearable as a consumer product in the EU in H1’2027, and then as a medically cleared product in the US. Our team consists of over 80 staff, including more than 50 PhDs, with deep expertise in entrepreneurship, product development, and the required engineering as well as scientific disciplines. We are operating out of our lab facilities in Pfäffikon SZ, Switzerland, and our office in San Francisco, United States.
Critically evaluate scientific and technical challenges
Strategize scientific and technical progress across many disciplines including, but not limited to machine learning, photonics, biomedical sciences, and electronics
Inspire and identify intellectual property in the developments of the organization
Coordinate the securing and maintenance of intellectual property rights
Work closely across functions to develop both the scientific aspects of the technical strategy and the business strategy
PhD or similar terminal degree in a quantitative scientific field (e.g., Engineering subdiscipline, Computer Science, Statistics, Machine Learning, Applied Math, Operations Research, Biomedical Informatics) or a publication history in such a field
Hands-on and pragmatic leadership style
At least 8 years of work experience, preferably in academia or industry characterized by a combination of quantitative analysis of high-dimensional data, preferably in a biomedical domain
In depth understanding of intellectual property, preferably a track record of patents and patent applications
Track record of managing complex projects with interdisciplinary members
Insatiable curiosity, creativity, and thirst for impactful innovation
