Job Description - Robotics Engineering Intern

Robotics Engineering Intern

Start date: March or April 2025

Duration: 6 months

Location: Zurich

Want to become an innovator?

Join us at the forefront of the robotics industry, developing and deploying a new generation of drones capable of physical interaction with the world - which makes them actual flying robots.

Spun off from the world-renowned Autonomous Systems Lab of ETH Zurich in 2019, Voliro was awarded the Top Swiss Robotics Startup 2022 and named one of the Top 10 most innovative companies in robotics 2023 worldwide.

After releasing our first generation product in September 2022, we have proved product-market fit in early 2023. Now, our next mission is to scale the business and create an unmatched customer experience around the core product.

Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, our growth markets are in North America as well as Europe.

Your role

As a Robotics Engineering Intern you will be part of the Voliro development team, working alongside our experienced developers tackling one or more projects improving the Voliro T firmware, hardware and its infrastructure. The exact topics we can offer you during your internship depend on the current needs of Voliro and your skills, experience and interest and will be discussed during the interview process. You will also support our firmware, hardware and flight testing activities during which you will learn to operate our robot and deploy it in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Build a Smart Battery Test Stand:
Own the design and implementation of a test setup for our smart batteries. This project covers mechanical design, electrical work, embedded software, and data analysis - all rolled into one. Your work solves a real need and will be used the moment it is ready.
We expect this to take the first 3 months.

  • Multidisciplinary Tasks Incoming:
After your test stand is operational, you'll dive into projects that blend hardware with embedded software - think sensor integration. The exact details will be defined after the initial project, so expect evolving requirements.

  • Be Part of the Team:
At a startup, there are no idle roles - you’re an active team member. Expect new tasks or bug fixes to come your way as they pop up.

  • Integration and Flight Testing:
Collaborate with the team during system integration and flight tests to ensure everything works as intended in real-world conditions.

At Voliro, we’re building the world’s first aerial robot for contact-based work at height. This internship is a hands-on, real impact role—if you're ready to dig in, solve real problems and learn what it takes to build a robotic system in the real world, this is it.

Benefits

Voliro is an opportunity for you to join a team at the forefront of the robotics industry, a team of pioneers and enthusiasts. You will leverage your experience in a dynamic and multidisciplinary working environment and grow together with Voliro. Innovation is our driver and customer excellence our mission. We cultivate a transparent, motivating and progressive company culture. Also, we offer unlimited amounts of high-quality espresso.
