Job Description - Safeguarding Trainee



Department : Health, Medicine and Science Department


Location : Lausanne, Switzerland 


Contract Type : Trainee (12 months)


Activity Level: 100%

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement. A truly global organisation, it acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all Olympic stakeholders, including athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Sports Federations (IFs), Organising Committees for the Olympic Games (OCOGs), Worldwide Olympic Partners and Media Rights-Holders. It also works with public and private authorities, including the United Nations and other international organisations.   


  


If you are a n athlete recently graguated in the field of safeguarding , and the vision to build a better world through sports inspires you, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the Olympic Movement within the IOC. As Safeguarding Trainee, your mission will be to support the IOC Health Medicine and Science’s (HMS) safeguarding team in the development and implementation of IOC safeguarding programmes and initiatives.


 


 


Safeguarding Trainee’s main responsibilities: 


 


Administration



  • Perform administrative tasks, such as maintaining databases, preparing data reports, correspondence, activity tracking, contract management, and presentations.

  • Support in the coordination (engagement with attendees, taking minutes, etc.) and preparation of materials and presentations for meetings and activities organized by the HMS safeguarding team

  • Support inter-departmental coordination on relevant projects and updates.

  • Manage the IOC Safeguarding webpages to keep them up to date.

  • Coordinating the publication of Comms pieces with the IOC Communications Department.

  • Maintaining the database of the safeguarding initiatives.


 


Education



  • Assist the HMS safeguarding and mental health team in the development of educational and training initiatives including Games-Time activations.

  • Assist in the coordination with suppliers, lecturers, course directors and students during the development and delivery phases of each of the courses.

  • Support in the copy editing.


Safeguarding Policy and Guidance



  • Assist the HMS safeguarding team in the background research, development, dissemination and storing of safeguarding policies, guidelines and resources. 

  • Assist the Senior Manager Safeguarding in the review of safeguarding policies and guidelines being developed by Olympic stakeholders, utilising the policy and indicators.


 


Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement



  • Work with other IOC departments to support the integration of safeguarding into all aspects of the organization’s activities.

  • Assist in coordinating meetings with safeguarding bodies, regulatory agencies, sport organisations across the Olympic movement and other key stakeholders.

  • Assist in the coordination of the Global Safeguarding Community of Practice, including maintaining the databases and the search tool up to date.

  • Support in the development and coordinate the delivery of the IOC Collaborative Programme for IF and NOC Welfare Officers at Games time.


 


Monitoring and Evaluation



  • Assist in conducting regular assessments to monitor the efficacy of safeguarding measures implemented by the IOC.

  • Help with gathering and analysing feedback from participants to improve safeguarding practices and educational programmes.


 


Other


Contribute to special tasks, projects or initiatives as delegated by the Senior Manager - Safeguarding.


 


To succeed in these role, these are the minimum qualifications:


Education (as a minimum a Bachelor’s degree or similar) in a relevant field such as social work, psychology, health and allied health professions, sociology, criminology, law or professional experience deemed equivalent.


Experience as a former elite athlete/Olympian is preferred.


Having completed formal education on safeguarding is a plus.


Experience in project management.


Fluent in English. French and/or Spanish is a plus.


Excellent command of corporate tools and compliance with internal usage rules (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
