Vessel Operation Manager

Job Description:

Our client, a Sea Cargo business in Abu Dhabi, is seeking an experienced Vessel Operation Manager.

Duties of the role:

1. Responsible for the overall management and technical operations of the vessels under his responsibility. This includes overseeing the daily maintenance and repair, budgeting, survey scheduling, onboard general assessment of vessels, inspections, and docking when required.
2. Manage day-to-day operations of vessels under Ship Managers.
3. Monitor vessel purchases and accounts and work closely with the commercial department of the owners.
4. Experience in marine operations management, preferably in roles of increasing responsibility.
5. Proven track record of effectively managing vessel operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and optimizing operational efficiency.
6. Experience in budget management and resource allocation within a maritime context.
7. Familiarity with international shipping practices, port operations, and maritime regulations.
8. Experience in Bulk Carriers and Tankers.
9. Proficient in vessel operations, maintenance, and regulations.
10. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
11. Oversee fleet operations and ensure compliance with industry standards.
12. Collaborate with ship managers to address technical issues and maintenance requirements.
13. Provide technical guidance and support to onboard and shore-based teams.
14. Ensure Company-owned and managed vessels are operated in a safe, efficient, and economical manner and in full compliance with Class and Statutory regulations.
15. Ensure the assigned vessels are fully operational technically or otherwise managed accordingly to the management agreement requirements.
16. To maintain the classification status of the vessels under his charge and to ensure that the survey status reports are sent to the vessels on a monthly basis.
17. Ensure that Vessels Planned maintenance system is being operated and reported in the manner prescribed in the company’s standards and procedures.
18. Budget responsibility for technical and operation elements of the assigned vessels.
19. Identify and source for technical and operational supplies required for the vessels and ensure that the rates are most economical.
20. Co-ordinate and supervise service repairs, utilizing approved sub-contractors as required and ensure all such repairs are completed in a timely and satisfactory manner and within the vessel’s set operational budget.
21. Providing written reports as required, detailing in-service repairs, dry-docking repairs, and surveys, including costs incurred during such activities.
22. Ensure all relevant information regarding a vessel repair.
23. Liaise with customers on technical and operational matters including vessel performance.
24. Liaise with the Purchasing department to ensure that purchase requisitions are being tracked and expedited in a timely manner.
25. Oversee and give input to prepare tender documents including establishing costs/budgets/programs and be part of subsequent bid/tender evaluations.
