SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Data Scientist supports the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness (OIPE) by developing descriptive, predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning algorithms, conducting statistical analyses to support decision-making for higher management, and providing recommendations, based on data analytics, to improve the efficiency and performance of various units.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Data Analysis / Data Engineering: Collect, clean, and preprocess data for analysis.
- ML Modeling: Develop predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning algorithms.
- Statistical Analysis: Conduct statistical analyses to support decision-making and solve business problems.
- Business Intelligence: Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights. Also, create data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings effectively.
- Translate data insights into actionable recommendations for various stakeholders.
- Prepare reports and presentations for management.
- Communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Take initiatives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and performance of various units at AU through in-depth data analysis.
- Support other members of OIPE as directed by the Executive Director of OIPE.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field is required. However, a Master's degree is preferred for this position.
- The applicant must have at least four years' experience as a data scientist or in a similar role.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R.
- Proficiency in using data analysis and machine learning libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, sci-kit-learn, TensorFlow, Colab, …).
- Proficiency in utilizing data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Tableau, MS Power BI, or other related tools).
- Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- Project management experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
