Job Description - Commis Chef

JobSummary:

A Commis Chef assists in thepreparation cooking and presentation of dishes within a specificsection of the kitchen. They are responsible for ensuring highstandards of hygiene food quality and kitchen operations. Thecommis chef learns and practices new culinary techniques and skillsunder the guidance of seniorchefs.

KeyResponsibilities:

  1. FoodPreparation:

    • Assistin the preparation and cooking of food items as directed by theChef de Partie or seniorchefs.
    • Follow recipes andpresentation standards to ensure consistency in quality andpresentation.
  2. Cookingand Plating:

    • Cookand assemble dishes according to established recipes andguidelines.
    • Plate dishes in anaesthetically pleasing and accuratemanner.
  3. KitchenOperations:

    • Maintaina clean and organized workstation at alltimes.
    • Ensure all kitchen equipmentand tools are cleaned and properly stored afteruse.
  4. FoodSafety andHygiene:

    • Adhereto all food safety and hygiene standards andregulations.
    • Assist in the cleaningand sanitization of the kitchen including work surfaces floors andequipment.
  5. InventoryManagement:

    • Assistin receiving and storing deliveries ensuring proper stock rotationand storage.
    • Monitor stock levelsand report shortages or needs to the Chef de Partie or seniorchefs.
  6. TeamCollaboration:

    • Workclosely with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow andtimely service.
    • Follow instructionsfrom senior chefs and provide support asneeded.
  7. LearningandDevelopment:

    • Continuouslylearn and develop culinary skills andtechniques.
    • Participate in trainingsessions and seek feedback to improveperformance.

Qualifications:

  • Education:Formal culinary training or a diploma in culinary arts ispreferred.
  • Experience:Prior experience in a professional kitchen is an advantage but notalwaysrequired.
  • Skills:Basic cooking skills knife skills and knowledge of food safetystandards.
  • Attributes:Strong work ethic attention to detail ability to work in afastpaced environment willingness to learn and good communicationskills.

WorkingConditions:

  • Environment:Professional kitchen often fastpaced andhighpressure.
  • Hours:May include early mornings late nights weekends andholidays.
  • PhysicalDemands: Standing for extended periods lifting heavyitems and working in a hot and noisyenvironment.




Qualifications: Education: Formal culinary training or a diploma inculinary arts is preferred. Experience: Prior experience in aprofessional kitchen is an advantage but not always required.Skills: Basic cooking skills, knife skills, and knowledge of foodsafety standards. Attributes: Strong work ethic, attention todetail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, willingness tolearn, and good communication skills.
