Consultant Geriatrician - Abu Dhabi

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and compassionate Consultant Geriatrician to join a leading healthcare organization in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive medical care for older adults, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of age-related conditions, complex comorbidities, frailty, cognitive disorders, and functional decline. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to enhance quality of life and promote healthy aging.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions affecting elderly patients.
• Conduct Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA), including medical, functional, cognitive, psychological, and social evaluations.
• Develop individualized care plans addressing complex health needs and multiple comorbidities.
• Manage conditions commonly seen in older adults, including dementia, delirium, falls, frailty, osteoporosis, polypharmacy, incontinence, and mobility disorders.
• Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including primary care physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, psychologists, and palliative care specialists.
• Provide consultation services for hospitalized patients and support transitions of care between inpatient, outpatient, rehabilitation, and community settings.
• Promote preventive healthcare, healthy aging, and chronic disease management strategies.

Leadership & Service Development

• Contribute to the development and expansion of geriatric medicine services and age-friendly healthcare initiatives.
• Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical governance programs.
• Assist in establishing clinical pathways, protocols, and best practices in geriatric care.

Education & Training

• Provide teaching, mentorship, and supervision to physicians, residents, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities and departmental educational programs.
• Promote awareness of geriatric medicine principles among healthcare providers and caregivers.

Research & Academic Activities

• Participate in clinical research, audits, and evidence-based practice initiatives related to elderly care.
• Contribute to publications, presentations, and quality improvement projects where applicable.
• Stay updated with advancements in geriatric medicine and healthy aging practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Completion of accredited specialty training in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or related specialty, followed by Fellowship/Subspecialty training in Geriatric Medicine.
• Board Certification in Geriatric Medicine recognized by the Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi.
• Minimum of 3–5 years post-board/fellowship experience as a Consultant Geriatrician.
• Eligibility for DOH Abu Dhabi Consultant licensure.
• Expertise in comprehensive geriatric assessment and management of complex elderly patients.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
• Fluency in English; Arabic language proficiency is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in tertiary hospitals, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, or academic medical institutions.
• Expertise in dementia care, falls prevention, frailty management, and healthy aging programs.
• Experience in service development, quality improvement, and geriatric care pathways.
• Participation in research and academic activities related to aging and elderly care.
