Consultant Psychiatry (Geriatric Psychiatry) - Abu Dhabi

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with a Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry to join a leading healthcare organization in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment, with a particular focus on the mental health needs of older adults.

Arabic language proficiency is essential to effectively communicate with patients and their families and provide culturally appropriate care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for adult and geriatric patients.
• Manage complex psychiatric and behavioral conditions in elderly patients, including dementia-related behavioral and psychological symptoms.
• Develop individualized treatment plans, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and allied health professionals.
• Provide consultation to other medical specialties regarding psychiatric and behavioral health concerns.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, education, and other departmental activities.

Requirements

• Medical Degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent).
• Board Certification / Specialist qualification in Psychiatry from a recognized authority.
• Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry is required.
• Relevant experience as a Consultant/Specialist Psychiatrist, preferably with significant exposure to geriatric mental health.
• Strong clinical expertise in the assessment and management of complex psychiatric conditions in older adults.
• Arabic speaker – mandatory.
• Eligible for DOH Abu Dhabi licensure or already holding a valid DOH license.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in dementia, delirium, mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, and behavioral disorders in older adults.
• Experience working in a hospital, academic medical center, or specialized mental health setting.
• Experience in multidisciplinary geriatric care is an advantage.
