Job Description - Dean of Research

Dean of Research

Position Summary

The Dean of Research is a new senior leadership role
established to provide strategic direction and leadership for the research
agenda at [Academy Name]. The primary purpose is to shape, guide, and implement
the institution's research strategy. This is a permanent, full -time senior
appointment.

The Dean of Research will be responsible for ensuring the
institution's research is methodologically rigorous, addresses significant
societal needs, and contributes to meaningful regional development.

This position is one of three Dean roles (Research,
Education, and Continuous Professional Learning) reporting to the Deputy Vice
Chancellor (Academic). The incumbent will work collaboratively with senior
administration and academic leaders to develop and execute the institutional
research plan, build research capacity, and establish a robust and distinctive
doctoral program. The successful candidate will be an established and dynamic
academic leader with a distinguished record in research leadership within an
education -related field.

The Dean of Research will be instrumental in advancing the
institution's impact on educational development nationally and within the
broader regional context. Familiarity with the regional context and proficiency
in both Arabic and English will be considered advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

Research Strategy and Leadership:

  • Develop
    and implement the institution's research strategy.
  • Foster
    a vibrant and excellent research culture.
  • Increase
    research activity and performance in the institution's core focus areas.

Research Quality:

  • Develop
    frameworks to monitor, support, and evaluate research quality across all
    academic units.

Capability Building:

  • Lead
    the design and implementation of research capability development programs
    for faculty.
  • Develop
    and oversee doctoral supervision training aligned with international best
    practices.

Funding and Resource Management:

  • Secure
    local and international research funding and strategic partnerships.
  • Manage
    research budgets and oversee the grant submission and research project
    proposal processes.

Postgraduate Research:

  • Oversee
    all higher degree by research (HDR) programs.
  • Coordinate
    admissions and provide support for research capability programs for both
    staff and students.

Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Facilitate
    interdisciplinary research collaboration within the institution.
  • Build
    and maintain relationships with industry, government, and external
    stakeholders to maximize research impact.

Institutional Effectiveness:

  • Collaborate
    with other institutional leaders to align research initiatives with
    strategic planning.
  • Measure,
    evaluate, and report on research outcomes and impact.

Representation and Advocacy:

Represent the institution on research committees
and at national and international forums.


Requirements

Required Qualifications and Skills:

Academic Credentials:

  • An
    earned PhD in a field relevant to the institution's mission.
  • A
    strong personal track record of research, with ideal expertise in
    quantitative or mixed methods research within education or a closely
    related field.

Strategic Thinking:

  • Demonstrated
    ability to develop and implement strategic plans that align with
    institutional priorities.

Leadership:

  • Proven
    experience in providing strategic direction and leading academic or
    research teams.

Communication:

  • Excellent
    interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Experience
    leading initiatives involving diverse stakeholders.

Management:

  • Direct
    experience in budget management and resource allocation.

Preferred Skills and Expertise:

Languages:

  • Proficiency
    in both Arabic and English.

Regional Experience:

  • Relevant
    professional or academic experience within the regional context.
