Job Description - Fleet Incharge

Summary

The Fleet Incharge plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost -effective operation of a logistics company’s vehicle fleet. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet management, including vehicle maintenance, compliance, driver coordination, fuel optimization, and performance tracking. As a strategic operations leader, the Fleet Incharge ensures that the fleet aligns with company goals, regulatory standards, and service level agreements. By leveraging data -driven insights and proactive management practices, the Fleet Incharge enhances fleet uptime, reduces operational costs, and supports the seamless delivery of goods across regional and national networks. This role is critical to maintaining service reliability, minimizing downtime, and driving continuous improvement in logistics performance.

Responsibilities

Oversee the full lifecycle management of the company’s vehicle fleet, including acquisition, deployment, maintenance, and disposal.
Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules to maximize vehicle availability and extend asset lifespan.
Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics such as fuel consumption, vehicle utilization, mileage, and downtime.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including vehicle safety standards, emissions requirements, and driver hours -of -service (HOS) rules.
Coordinate with maintenance vendors and internal technicians to resolve mechanical issues promptly and minimize service interruptions.
Manage driver assignments, performance tracking, and training programs to support safe and efficient operations.
Implement fuel management strategies to reduce waste and improve cost efficiency.
Maintain accurate fleet records, including vehicle logs, repair histories, insurance documentation, and licensing.
Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
Collaborate with operations, dispatch, and procurement teams to align fleet capacity with delivery demands and business growth.
Utilize fleet management software and telematics systems to monitor real -time vehicle data and generate actionable reports.

Requirements

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Automotive Engineering, or a related field; certification in fleet management (e.g., CFM, CFP) is highly desirable.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role within the logistics or transportation industry.
Proven expertise in fleet maintenance planning, vehicle lifecycle management, and compliance with transportation regulations.
Strong analytical skills with experience using fleet management software (e.g., Samsara, Geotab, Fleetio) and ERP systems.
In -depth knowledge of fuel management, cost control, and performance benchmarking techniques.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem -solving abilities with a proactive approach to operational challenges.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast -paced, deadline -driven environment.
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Experience with data reporting, KPI tracking, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
