Fire Fighting Draftsman – Job Description

A Fire Fighting Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings and shop drawings for fire protection and firefighting systems in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and engineering requirements. The role involves coordinating with engineers, consultants, and project teams to ensure accurate design documentation and successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and revise firefighting system drawings, including sprinkler systems, hydrant systems, hose reels, fire pumps, and related piping layouts.
  
• Develop shop drawings, coordination drawings, as-built drawings, and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD or other drafting software.
  
• Review project specifications, IFC drawings, and consultant requirements to ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  
• Coordinate with MEP disciplines and site teams to resolve design clashes and technical issues.
  
• Prepare material take-offs and assist in quantity estimation as required.
  
• Incorporate comments from consultants, clients, and engineers into revised drawings.
  
• Maintain drawing registers and ensure proper document control procedures are followed.
  
• Support project engineers during design reviews, approvals, and inspections.
  

Requirements:

• Diploma or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
  
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant drafting software.
  
• Knowledge of firefighting systems, NFPA standards, local fire codes, and MEP coordination practices.
  
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  

Experience:

• Typically 2–5 years of experience in firefighting drafting within MEP, construction, or fire protection projects.
  
• Experience in preparing shop drawings and coordination drawings for commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
